The north buck one.....why??? I dont get it, take the extra 5 minutes to go towards the shore where EVERYONE else goes around that heave. Lucky that there is 20+ inches on his rear wheels.

That's the entrance to sunset harbour. It could have been alot worse once you get into the main mooring area, it's 20' deep and aerated. Plus the gate is locked on the boat launch to get out.

Seen the heaves at N.Buck, I would never cross them out there. More than one there. YA, Why not go where everyone else goes??? Good thing the ice is over two feet.

Your best bet is to stick to the road on the ice you will not have a problem. there is also ice thickness to consider about in your travels.

Tysonlazo - Yes, that's it, a long linear feature of ice that is mounded up. They are usually just a metre or so across and can be anywhere from a foot to several feet or more high. The ice expands and shrinks though the day and night, and the ice heave is where the ice breaks to relieve the tension (and tends to re-break in the same spot every day, all winter).

Do a google search of "ice heave" or "pressure ridge", click on pictures and there are some good photos of them there.
I think that is the truck I saw out there that weekend doing around 80 km/hr then throwing the truck sideways playing around on the lake. I was thinking to myself when I saw it, "hope he doesnt get too close to the heave".
