Hello,

I'm new to fishing for white fish. How far off of the bottom should I have my wire worm? I have a few hours to kill tomorrow and will hit ghost as its close to home. I know ghost is tough to fish, so I should do all I can to attract them!

Thanks!
Mike

I have never fished Ghost but from other experiences I have had over the last 30 years of fishing for whites I can tell you that you need to experiment. Some days they will be suspended in mid-water depths, other times they will be feeding at or near the bottom. I once caught my 5 fish limit with the last one out of the hole before the first one had quit moving and all were caught about a foot under the ice!
My advice would be to try about mid depth to start, if you do not get any action try lower by a foot or two, then try deeper yet and also try slowly jigging it up and then letting it freefall back down.
Make sure your wireworm is sticking out horizontal and not hanging down.
Good luck and don't forget to post results.

you are mostly fishing for rockies in there if you are after whites, tip your hook with a maggot or two and fish near the bottom

bring a nice assortment of small flashy lures,,, a chrome teardrop is quite effective but not near the bottom, higher in the column,,, also try more radical stuff like a larger lure a buzzbomb or a big spoon.

whoops, whitefish part I missed,,, royal coachman clip the wings almost off, tip with one maggot,, slow feed line out with the tiniest splitshot.

Good luck

I tie up some weighted bloodworm patterns and fish them close to the bottom, it works GREAT for me!!

How do I get my wire worm to suspend horizontal?

tie your clinch knot tight to the shank and move your knot upwards so it sits horizontally.

Thanks! I appreciate the help! I caught 2 today but couldn't get them thru the hole. I'm told whites have a soft mouth so this should work!
