my brother in law and i have noticed a huge number of badger mounds all over the place. we tried to flood a ew out by tiping a barrel of water diwn the hole to see if we could flush one out with no luck. many holes were full of snow but some werent so we would try those ones. anyone tried this method with success?? they are real buggers and we need to clear some out.

maybe a water truck is in order

Try finding the holes that have the dirt filled in, those are the ones the tend to be in, if its just an open hollow and you can see in, there not likely in it.

I agree with KBF about which holes to fill and also a barrel of water isn't enough water. I have put a 1000 gallon tank down one before getting the badger out.
I would recommend skipping the water and going to anhydrous ammonia.
Note never put anhydrous down a hole after you have flooded it. The anhydrous reacts with the water and can pop back out the hole at you.

Fishing pole, large hook, through a gopher and lower it down the hole. Way better then salmon fishing, be sure to have a heavy shovel handy.

So im new to badger thing and when you say holes are filled with dirt. What do they do crawl in and push dirt to the entrance?? Iv seen many piles of dirt that look like they are a few days old (bone dry) with no holes to be found.

Yes the tend to fill in the hole behind them when thaey go down,to keep danger out as well I imagine it helps keep it warmer.

i biologist told me that if you are finding holes, the badger has likely moved on. the exception would be a momma with yoots. im not versed enough on badger biology to know, but he should i guess.

id try with other animals too, but badgers are the only thing i can catch. well, i can almost keep up to a raccoon, but they dont turn to fight....just keep running. im plotting a bagder slam.....gotta try to get one with every deadly hand tool i can fit in the truck! i feel like i cheated shooting that last one.

I dropped about 75G of water down a hole last year and had one come to the bottom of the hole on the other end. I shot him in the head from there and dug him out with a shovel....kinda fun.
