I'm in the process of looking for a new truck.I want a full size 4/4 but can't decide between the Toyota Tundra with a 4.7 (better gas mileage than the 5.7)or the Nissan Titan with a 5.6 .Both are in the same ball park as far as prices but which one is more reliable /fuel effecient .Any feed back of people who owns one or knows of someone who has one would be appreciated Thanks for your help.

Not true.I have a 5.7 and friends have the 4.7,and the mileage is virtually identical.

Don't know about the milage in the 4.7 but I've heard the same as stubblejumper. Same gas mileage but power to spare with the 5.7. I love mine.
I have a 4.9 litre dodge and it gets the same as a 5.3 chev. I was thinking I was going to get better milage but did not.

This is a very common argument a smaller displacement engine should use less fuel. However a smaller engine working harder or a larger engine working regularly could acutually make the smaller engine less fuel efficient.
I would consider the nissan personally just because I think the toyota are ugly and I cant stand the commercials. " where ever 1 horse can go 350 horses should be able to go much faster" ...man I hate those commercials ....could also have to do with Wild Tv only having Jack links and Toyota commercials.
If fuel economy is a major consideration check out the GMC and Chevy half tons, best fuel economy in there class (5.3L)
Cheers.

Just go and get a Chevy Silverado, with the 5.3 Litre motor, great truck, great motors, with a good balance of power to fuel efficiency! The General has been in the business of building good trucks for a long, long time!
Anyways, let us know what you decide, and how you like it. Good luck with your purchase. :)

I think we worry about this a little too much though.... buying $45,000 trucks and worrying about fuel economy when the difference between a good and bad one is like $200 or $300 a year. We aren't talking about a hybrid over a gas guzzler here.

We aren't talking about a hybrid over a gas guzzler here. You want economy? Buy a honda sedan and rent a truck for the 20 days a year you really need it. LOL Better for the environment AND your wallet. ;)

Just be aware that the link above is for a U.S site,so the mileage is in miles per U.S. gallon. The imperial gallon is 20% larger than the U.S.gallon.
Below is the Canadian site.

Fuel mileage estimates for the Toyota Tundra 4x4 with both the 4.7 and 5.7 engines.Notice that the 4.7 gets 1 mpg more in the city, and the 5.7 gets 1 mpg more on the highway.

Remember, these are only estimates, the best way to get a good idea of real world mileage is to check out sites like Edmunds, motor trend,or truck trend, where all the pickups are driven under identical conditions. In real world driving, the difference in mileage is actually much less than in the estimates.
