Yesterday, the SIL and I were once again fishing for rainbows. Fishing was considerably slower than last Saturday. I hooked 4 and iced 2 (one that escaped was on my line for nearly 4 minutes and my reel was singing a beautiful song), Dave hooked 1 and iced 1. In comparison, last Saturday we hooked 20 and iced 6.

What was unusual yesterday was the speed of the trout. As a rule, we both sight fish as we enjoyed viewing the trout take our baited hook. Yesterday, we saw fare fewer trout and most of those we did see were moving through our range of vision FAST.

Why would the trout be moving so fast? Almost as though they were chasing down something or fleeing something. Can anyone offer an explanation?

I've noticed now at a couple of ponds I frequient that they seem to be hearding bait fish into the shore. Lately I've been fishing in 3-5 feet of water no more that 5 feet from shore. not sure if this helps but its a thought.
