Just found out that my 8 year old nephew will be up this weekend and I would like to take him out fishing. Are there still enough little perch in Nakamun biting that he would have a full day of fishing or should I look else where?

Not looking for biggins', just want the kid to catch a bunch, he has been skunked twice this past summer with his dad and his enthusiasm for fishing is starting to drop, so I want to try and bring it back.

Thanks for any help and I hope everyone has a great family day weekend!!

Yup i was there two weeks ago and between four of us we had to have caught no less than about 75 perch. Majority of them were between 4 and 6 inches but it was still a fun day.

Me and the kids were there on Sunday. We got there at about 8:00am and left at 2:00. The boy hooked on within 2 minutes while I was getting things setup and the girl caught one when I was showing her how to put the hook near the bottom. At times we had two on and never waited more than 15 minutes between fish. I think we caught between 30 and 35 fish. Some were so small that we wondered how the fish even got its mouth around the hook. We used small jigs and maggots. We also noticed that most fish were caught while actively jigging as opposed to using the rod holders. We were right between the south boat dock and the point on the north side. Probably deepest part of the lake and kept the hook about 1-2' off the bottom.

We had a great day despite not eating any fish. The kids are looking forward to next time.

Just want to say thanks to everyone that responded.

I cannot wait to see his face when he starts catching fish.

I will post pics after this weekend.

I also found that they werent interested in my hook unless there was a maggot on it. So it would be a good idea to grab yourself a bag of maggots and fish a foot from the bottom. Looking forward to some pics as well.

Thanks to everyone who responded to my post. My Nephew and BIL had a great time out on the ice and now the kid wants to go fishing for something bigger. :thinking-006:

Looks like pike fishing this summer is now on the books. :sHa_shakeshout:

Here are a couple of pics. of the day.

Perch were biting for most of the day and we kept a few.
The weather got a little ugly with the wind, so we were very lucky to have the big tent, everyone got to stay warm.
You can see that he started catching fish before the tents were even set up!!
But he did have some fun at the end digging the tent out.

Nephews face is blurred by request, but please trust me his smile was ear to ear.

Thanks again for everyone's help and advice, probably one of my better fishing memories to date!
Hope everyone had a good family day weekend.

Some friends and my brother took my family out there yesterday and we caught a bunch. My five year old daughter got about 8 before the Nintendo DS became more fun. After instruction she said "I can do it myself." And she did. Got three on her own (except taking the fish off). Weather was not great but lots of fun. Glad you had fun and yes, it's still good for kids.
