Here is a pattern i invented called the stonedfloatman.
Its a imitation of a stone fly and i designed it to float up higher then traditional foam stone flies and have the legs continuously bouncing on top of the water as it wiggles from side to side like a boat and it is very simple to tie and costs next to nothing to produce one.
I also colored in with marker black dots to make it more lifelike.
If you wanted to you could wrap the thorax in dubbing but that would take more time to tie.

That looks like it should get you a few nice fish this summer.

I haven't tried tying with foam yet but may have to give it a go soon here when I get my tying area put back together.

Grayling would absolutely hammer the crap outta that fly all day long in August/September. Rubber legs seem to be the deal maker on LSR grayling.

I'm sure it will catch fish FH7 but when it comes to stones, I'm a believer in not floating them higher, but nearly drowning them. Especially when they are getting picky.

Put a kink in the hook 1/3 of the way from the eye and put a nice bubble of foam on that part. The other 2/3 hangs in the water, like it's dropping its eggs or about to go under. You can still see the foam floating along but it rides mostly in the film.

Great to see the creativity!

I find it more rewarding to catch fish on homemade patterns.

I can see fish hitting this pattern, but the hookup ratio may be low. The body strip may actually prevent the hook point from making contact with the fish. If this happens, consider tying a stopper ( a few wraps of thread and some epoxy) under the body strip to keep it high on the shank, widening the hook gap.

Looking forwards to pics of what this fly catches. :)

Its made for larger-faster water. As for the hookset i thought about tying the belly up but im sure instead of raising your rod tip a strip set would be more effective.

Great job on the creativity Dustin.

I wonder how big one could make it and still be throwable? Green foam and tie up some thicker back legs. Nice frog pattern and it looks fairly weedless.
