Okay folks, we moderators have had to delete quite a few off topic, tasteless, and harrassing "jokes" as of late. Please do not post jokes on this Message board, as we feel, that it is not the proper platform for it, and they are not welcome here. Keep that stuff to personal email, and private messages.
Thank-you.

Brady, I understand what you are saying. Certainly we all have different standards in terms of what is acceptable.

I for one enjoy the jokes and humor. Too often the stupid bickering makes this board feel like a negative place, and a new thread under general by Sully usually makes my day.

I realize that you guys have been working extra hard to establish a new level of maturity and civility on the board since it has been switched, and I support you efforts for it.

BUT.........

The degree of censorship does seem like it's been a bit excessive. Sometimes extrememly excessive.

Now to say that jokes are no longer welcome here really bothers me! I know that EVERY SINGLE ONE of my favourite hunting/fishing experiences have had way more laughs than filled tags in 'em!

Brady, I respect you, but it sure sounds like you are whining about having to do the job you signed on for. You are a moderator, so please do not complain to us about having to moderate!

Tree

PS Thank you for your volunteer efforts, we appreciate it.

Whoa, whoa whoa there treeguy, I am not whining, and believe you me, I am not complaining about having to moderate on this board. We have gone down this road before with the jokes, and when we have to delete 2-3 of these a day, because of sexual or harrassing references in them, it is time to draw the line.
You enjoy the jokes Treeguy, feel free to hand out your email address for all to share their jokes with. The Alberta Outdoorsmen message board is not in existence for that purpose, and with the amount of different people, whether it be age, gender, ethicity, whatever, these jokes have crossed the line, and will not be tolerated any longer. Plain and simple.

Trust me, Brady when I say that I'm on your side when it come to the 'BUD' style jokes. Those have no purpose on this board and SHOULD be deleted!

Maybe I misread your post. I enjoy the CLEAN efforts of humor on here and do my best to contribute. However, what I read from your statements is that jokes and humor are no longer permitted on the AO forum.

If that is the case, can you please direct me to the link where I can resign my membership? Learning and laughter is what I have gained from AO since I've been here. If I can't get a chuckle while learning, then I don't want to play anymore!

You know I thought about locking this thread right after I posted, but I thought, nope I want to see what you guys have to say, good or bad.
Here's the thing Tree, when these jokes, that I would compare with many that I and everybody else out there get in my email every day, started popping up on the old board, they were mild, then after a while, a few folks pushed the envelope to the point that some users were offended. So we pull in the reins, ask people not to post them, explain that this board is read by many different kinds of folks blah blah blah. So after a while, we get some new members, ones who now, know nothing of what I talk about the "old" board, who have a laffer to share..........then it snoballs again to the point of I myself deleting 5 of these in the last two days, and at least 1 by another mod, that someone was offended by, and thus alerted our attention to.
See where we are coming from Tree? We have to remember that there ARE kids reading this board, there ARE women reading this board, and there are many different people reading OUR board. Do we really want offensive material to be accepted as the norm, on this board? I don't think so, and I don't think I am that much out of touch from where I was when I signed on to help moderate this board, or for that matter, the old board.

Brady, I agree with you 100%. I get enough of that stupid crap in my inbox every day that I have to delete. I do not and will not post any of that stuff here as I realize that it is inapproiate. On the flip side I realize that there are about 3000 members here now, and not everyone will be as respectful. That is why we have moderators to maintain the moral standard of the board (which you do well).

I simply take issue with the fact that you are coming across that humor is no longer welcome here.

Also, if you have deleted 5, and another has deleted 1, then between 4 modorators in 2 days you have erased 6 objectional posts with 3000 members. That's pretty good since with my personal email list of about 60, I erased about 30 this morning alone! Still sounds a little whiny to me.

PS Goodnight. I'm in the middle of a tyke hockey tourny..........

It's about time something was done about the stale and off colour jokes that have been posted in this forum. i really don't know what can be learned from some of these jokes and or what they have to do with hunting/fishing/trapping etc.
It's really appreciated from this old guy to see someone who has taken a stand on this issue! i don't understand why it is not accepted by some in here who are threatning to quit. Brady my hat's off to ya dude. Keep on truckin, you have my respect 100%.:) :) :)

this board is supposed to be " about albertans by albertans" and if some want to post jokes for others entertainment i personally don't see a problem with it, it reflects on who we are. i know that i have drastically decreased my time on other sites that have progressed the way this one is appearing to progress, i guess it could be likened to socialism. everyone will have to make up their own mind on what they want from the site and whether it is for them or not. i think the more laid back nature along with the wide open discussion that used to happen on here is what got me coming here more in the first place. time and the mods will tell what path the forum will take in the future. till then try not to have too much fun.

Brady
03-02-2008, 07:35 AM
Bingo, you are absolutely right, it is about Albertans, but since when did we Albertans say that it was okay to make light of other people for reasons stated above. Nowhere did I say that humour isn't to be allowed on here, I am saying that these jokes that have surfaced lately, that seem to be cut and pastes' of before mentioned emails, are not welcome here, nor were they really ever welcome, just tolerated to the point that they transgressed to the point that they were considered offensive by some users. Thus the reasoning for this.
Mooseburger, thanx, I appreciate it.

Couldn't of said it better.
If I would tell a joke to my mother, wife and kids I would tell it on here. If not, then eather it should not be retold or maybe with the "guys"only.

There is plenty room for humor here on the board. But I don't come for the jokes and so will not miss them.

If jokes were band then we would have to ban a couple of the members that are little more than bad jokes:lol: If that offended you then you know who you are:evilgrin:

I hope we can still see some of the stuff guys put out I sure have enjoyed some timely chuckles and have learned to avoid threads posted by a couple of the cronic duffuses. Note: again no names no rules broken

If this board is only for hunting, fishing, and trapping, then get rid of the General Forum. Jokes never bothered me, I've heard a lot worse than what I've seen posted on here. I am grateful that we have mods who care enough to try to make everyone happy, but I do believe banning all jokes is a little much. I used to mod a different forum and trust me, we had to delete a lot more than 6 posts every two days.

Threads like this: http://www.outdoorsmenforum.ca/showthread.php?t=12386 really don't belong here any more than jokes IMO. Personally I kind of enjoy reading the odd joke on here. If I want to read about home renovations I'll find a forum catering to that.

I enjoy the humor on this board. Guys like you Tree are what makes this board what it is. If we start limiting members on using humor here what is next? Banning personal opinions? Example I might get offended if someone posts under an ever so popular "BEST GUN, CALIBER, TRUCK, etc." and someone says his is better than mine :( .

Maybe rather than banning the jokes make it manditory to include the word "joke" in the title of the thread. That way if you feel humor is a waste of time or you are easily offended you will not open the thread.

If we ban the jokes this smiley will have to go as well

what about threads like "dear tree"? and other threads along those lines ment to have a little fun and give some a good laugh after a long day.

if where going to ban jokes and such because this is a hunting-fishing-trapping forum, are you also going to ban threads about guys looking for work or about going to school NHL- UFC and other that threads are not "forum" related?

No offense to the Mods but nowhere does it say that jokes can't be posted. If the post is within the rules then let it stay. I love the humor I can find here, lets face it what hunt camp has zero humor or jokes..answer is none. If someone breaks the rules time them out if they do it again ban em. I would cheerfully offer to mod as would some of the others if it meant helping getting a handle on any or all problems you seem to be having. But lets face it the problems seem to be the same posters over and over so why rid the forum of humor rid it off the bad apples instead...win win IMO

C'mon you guys. Use common sense here. Many jokes that are deleted are deleted for a reason. Even some on the Tree thread were deleted. Nobody is saying stop having fun, what we're saying is remember that there are many youngsters on this board. If you wouldn't want your kids at home to read it, don't put it on here for sombody elses kids to read.

I understand exactly what the mods go through with the jokes. I have a sense of humor and enjoy asharing a laugh, but I also moderate elsewhere and the toughest thing with the most headaches to moderate is the humor forum. There is always somoen willing to take it one step closer to the line. Then they howl when their joke is deleted, because they saw one 6 weeks ago that wasn't as bad.

We are all guests here with the privilege of sharing our out door experiences. Use some common sense.

What does the NHL thread have to do with hunting? This is the General section here you want to talk hunting go to the hunting section.

I must have missed on some of the objective material being mentioned but tree is right if you guys are saying no more joking around or horseplay it is too much like being at work and no more fun. You dont like it dont read it. Too a certain extent of course.
