Male to Female Catch ratios?

Just wondering if I had something weird going on the other day...typically icefishing I notice about a 10:1 Female to male catch ratio while cleaning the fish. It has been this way for years...I was out last Friday and brought home 15 perch(7 female & 8 Male) and 3 Pike(1 female & 2 Male)...just an odd day or does this typically happen in Feb/March? Also talked to a friend that had a 50/50 ratio with Pike recently...any explanations?

Females are usually larger so they prolly get kept more?? I'm not sure

All 10"-11" perch and 4.5-5lb pike...I thought it was strange...

This time of year females are normally more aggressive in S.AB anyway. The 10:1 ratio is the norm for my crew anyway. Great catch without the spawners enjoy:sHa_shakeshout:

Everyone of the keeper pike we have caught between myself and paertner were all females so far this winter. I think normally we would be 8 or 9 females out of 10.

This is a lake I fish fairly often and it has always been the females biting 9 or 10:1...maybe just a fluke trip? Just wondering if anyone has had similar experiences....probably won't ever happen again.

My main trout lake I catch usually about 5-1 male to female brook trout. All my pike this year over 10lb were female

walleye, perch,and pike are all spring spawners the females require alot of food to prepare for spawning. hence they feed aggressively in the months before the spawn. the pike we pull out of pine lake tend to all be females.in my experience they seem to feed on smelt striped from anglers lines one 5lb fish contained a half dozen smelt no perch ,no small walleye,just smelt.

About 80% of the pike and perch I kept over the years were females.

80% of the trout I have kept though seem to be males .

my wife has kicked my butt the odd day on the river, that count? probably mostly girly fish though.

I'm blaming Katz's pharmacy empire for pharmaceutical drugs being dumped in the water which is changing the sex ratio of fish!

all kidding aside, I'll put $$ on the preparations of spawning season.

Out at lac la nonne, we caught 3 jack in about 3 hour span. All female.
