Was he in 2or 4wd? Did he have the cruise control on?

Often the difference between an incident and an accident is driver skill and common sense.

Crazy video, but you just proved nothing. The truck could be in 2 wheel drive or 4 wheel drive you don't have a clue.

One word....Tires!!!

Way more important than any wheel drive.

One statement.....drive for the conditions.....clearly this person was driving too quick for road conditions and lost control when they lost traction.....cut the speed by 10kms and they would still be around.....

Looked to me like he caught a tire in center windrow. That heavy slush can grab.

Nasty.

4wd are defined by excellent traction and control. There's a reason 4WD Rally cars have won every FIA championship since 1984.

It allows for much better traction and recovery, but it doesn't help if the person behind the wheel doesn't know what they are doing. Considering how the truck began to fishtail at the last second there, I'm thinking the driver didn't quite know how to handle themselves on slush.

As said above though, lots of other factors can come into play.

Hit the slush and over corrected.
Driving too fast to begin with.

I followed home a Mexican rig crew from.work one night about a month ago after a day of freezing rain. The.guy had his.license 3 days. Let's just say it comes.down to experi. He pit the truck in to to ditch, the rest of US didn't. When i stopped and talked.to him he sais he.didn't see and difference in 2 wheel drive and 4x4 so i left it in 2x4. I told him put in 4x4and take your time, there's a reason we all drive a 4x4.

It's all about experience. My first time.driving in a foot of.snow was white knuckle, now its just like a drive to the post office. Know your vehicle and what it can and can not do. 4x4 doesn't mean your invincible, but your way ahead of the 2 wheel rear drive vehicle

The most incredible feat of driving I've ever seen was with a rwd split-diff half-ton pickup with skinny tires and low-low 1st gear.

With four people and caving gear in the bed, the driver wove and crawled his way up a cat road that went ledge to ledge, with plenty of opportunity to get hung up or high-sided. No snow or ice mind you, this was June in the high desert of southern New Mexico.

Looks like he hit the slush and hydroplaned then over corrected,, don't matter if you have 6x4 it was driver error.

I don't think 4WD does much for you on ice. It comes down to speed and the vehicle weight.

As for this video do we know if he was in 4WD? Looks to me like he just caught that ridge of slush.

hooked the slush. don't how 4x4 became part of this thread, and to me i would not classify that as a truck. my two cents.

X10. 4X4 did not to be used, may aswell have a title of why pulling a 53' trailer is unsafe
