I tasted aligator last weekend and really liked it. Now, I want more. Anyone know where I can buy it in Alberta? Thanks. BEL

Grizzly house in Banff sell it. Give them a call maybe they will tell you who they buy from. Always cheaper to cook your own.

There is a Safeway (I think) on the west end of Jasper Avenue in Edmonton that sells exotic meats like alligator and kangaroo and some others as well.

the meat was white and almost like chicken breasts for tenderness. Difficult to say what it tasted like because it was cajun flavoured. Really liked it. Thanks to all who had suggestions. BEL

I got some at the Grizzly bear Den in Banff.. It was on the exotic menu along with Rattle snake, bull shark, frog leg, ostrich (which I was surprised to find is red meat) elk, and a few others... all very good.

Horizon Meats in Calgary.

They also sell rattlersnake meat, and yak-cross-beef.

I bought a quarter of yak from the producer that supplies Horizon Meats and it's the best domesticated red meat I've ever had in my freezer.

The rattlesnake meat and the alligator are captive bred – this is really important when it comes to the rattlers as most populations are on the decline. Sadly, the U.S. isn't quite as forward-thinking as we are when it comes to rattlesnake conservation. (And even ours are having sustainability issues despite our efforts.)

...Alligator is a very tasty white meat...yup just like chicken...if you get it from the tail area, it tends to be a 'bit' harder to chew lol....w/the right seasoning it's awesome!! :)

Smokin' Iron Farms, a butcher in NE Edmonton carries it (not all the time though) as well as numerous other exotic meat cuts.

Definetly stopping there next time I'm in Edmonton. Gonna try some roo, camel, horse, musk-ox, and goat. I've tried everything else on that menu.

Talking to an Aussie at the gun range a couple weeks ago, and he said camel is very good, but roo is very gamey. apparently the tail is the best part, though.
