Thinkin about hitting coal lake on Saturday and was wondering what the ice is like, how much top water is on it and can a person still get easy access from the south end?

Also is there any place to get bait in Camrose? Just lookin for some smelts, herrings and maggots. Or would a person have to hit Wetaskiwin for bait?

Thanks for your help folks...Ice...

try superstore for your smelts . They dont always have the big smelts
but its your best bet in Camrose .There in the frozen fish section...
good luck

I was there in the wind today. I was at the North end though. There was no water on the ice to speak of, just at the boat ramp. I went about three miles down the lake and travel was easy except when I got stuck in the hard snow along the west shore. Hard enough to walk on, but once the truck broke through, just spinning on the ice. Ice seemed good and still solid, except for the one place that it was only about 15-16" thick. Kind of spooky in a one ton crew cab. Saw a few pike through the hole, and had a couple of bites.
