Hi guys, I want to mount a Minnkota electric motor (looking at the I-pilot) to the bow of my 14 foot aluminum boat. The bow is however open and a custom mounting system will be required. I remember seeing someone else posting a plan he had used but just can,t find it again. Has anyone done this with good results who would be willing to share details?
Thanks

I have a thread on here of my boat reno last year. I think it was called "boat project update" I did a custom bow mount.

Love the ipilot

I saw a simple but effective way and oldtimer did exactly what you are proposing. He basically layed some sturdy plywood on the nose and traced out the outline of the bow. he doubled up the plywood so it was probably 1" 1/2" thick and through bolted some bolts and washers (maybe 10 around the perimeter). These bolts and nuts went through the channel around the outside of his boat. (the sturdy extruded aluminum part)

He made it a little bigger than needed and had a spot for his rope pulley, a spot for a cleat and even had a rod holder up there (I assume for back trolling maybe?).

Looked pretty slick. Those old timers have the best ideas and seem to invent stuff that works great without breaking the bank.

Thanks for the tips.
I need to bring it into the garage and give them some consideration.

Just had another thought - not sure what the budget is ....... a guy who welds aluminum could potentially rig up a plate on the nose large enough. He should be able to weld it up with some 1/2" plate. It would look professional that way.

Yep I like that idea.
