Spinning the bow.

I am pretty new to calgary and have yet to fish the bow. I wont be using a fly rod and i am just looking for some tips as to what is some good tackle to catch myself a nice trout?.. any help at all would be hugely appreciated.. id like to get out a few times before the 1st

I spin fish the bow river lots. Been trying to learn the fly rod but sometimes get frustrated and switch back to the spin rod. I have had great luck using rapala's, mainly CD-7, also some x-raps. I have also had some success with buzz bombs and panther martins. As for locations, the best thing to do is look at a google earth image of the river to find areas with possible deep pools and then try to find parking near by. Most places that I have found are a couple kms from any parking spot.

Getting so sick of the wind, soon going to put down the flyrod and spin the bloody river. Wind today is cyclonic, backcast has wind going north - forward cast, wind does a 180 due south. then its in your face, then at your back.

I use Rapala CD7 Countdowns. They produce good rainbows and browns for me. I use the Brown Trout, Rainbow, Perch and Silver Minnow designs.

rapala CD 5 in rainbow trout and brown trout and silver in the fall
CD7 are used when the fish take the CD5 too aggresivly and CD9 and 11s are fall lures when they feed on whitefish and spawn etc.
Use flouroline its invinicble and will increase your hookups in that river 10 fold. plus its stronger and it sinks.
Just cast and reel in slowly and steady without any twitchs and youll get into fish. Youll find out the darker it is the tighter they are to cover and to the banks. often times sitting within inchs away and in crystal clear slow moving water it looks like theyre dead lol.

Always, makes its 10x easier to release. I am all about keeping the fish healthy if am not planning on keeping it.

As for fishing by glenmore do you mean north or south of the dam?

i was just at glenmore bridge. i didnt get anything, and a fly fisher didnt get anything either while i was there. was using a f7 rapala brown trout

Last week I tried drift rigging a couple nymph fly patterns a friend gave me as my usual rapalas and spinners weren't working. Caught two smallish browns and a medium sized rainbow...seems fishing slow is better right now.

I was just down stream from the Glenmore bridge on Saturday morning. First cast found me a rapala CD7, along with it, a 20" Brown, a beautiful colored male too! I was just stunned!! Ended up catching a female close to the same size! Also, I had many follows by what appeared to be Rainbows...

CD5/7's were the ticket that day.

Thanks for advice. Im gonna stick with the X-rap... I have caught all 4 on it and my other buddy was having great luck with it
