Will spring be: Early...Late....or normal?

Last year was a late spring....2006 an early spring....what will this spring be?

i have looked at the almanac's and talked to a few....some say....early spring( hard to believe with the snow still on the ground)....some say another late spring (like last year)...others say....about normal....whatever that is


What do you guys think...your the experts....:D

Spring in Alberta is not when the gophers come out, or the robins are out, or even the sighting of Killdeer. It is defined as the time when the mighty herds of drilling rigs (diggeous holeous) go into hibernation.

My last day worked last year was March 19. This year, we seem to be dilling in the twilight zone of weather. We hit 7 degrees one day this year so far. And with winter threatening to rear its ugly head this weekend, spring is no where to be seen yet.

So------late.

When the road bans come on, which they are starting to show up here in the south, also when the DOT come out of hibernation and start cruising the highways.

I talked to an old Indian Chief the other day and asked him the same Question , this old Chiefs an expert on weather predictions.
So when l asked him if we,re getting an early spring , he said YUP, and then l asked him how he knew , is it the way the eagles fly ? no he said , not seen many Whitemen in the bush this month collecting firewood .

We often see the smaller rigs (minius drillus)out all year 'round looking for water, etc , but they are not nearly as plentiful in the summer, I agree!:D
Rigs as a rule are out of bounds for us non-ruoghnecks, and we generally do not see nearly as many as down south.

feels like spring down south here....BUT...i know we have at least one more coldish snap and a good snow storm left.

I think it's about normal, whatever that is.

We moved our rig into location the other night. Last hole before breakup for us.
Barely got it in there too.... This was west of Wetaskiwin, shallow gas.

Other than that cold snap, there has been no winter here in Calgary. We dropped a $100K snow removal contract this year after last season's misery. Should of kept it. I think that we've only had one snowfall this year that even came close to 10cm (pretty tough trying to sell our brand of plows:mad: ).

Three weeks ago I ran into a bee hive that was active! The trees are starting to bud and I've seen some preannuals popping out of the frost-free ground as well.

However, I really think that 'Old Man Winter' ain't done with us yet!

March 16 and -17C here this morning, there is another old saying "three snows after the crows". I have yet to see or hear a crow this Spring (lots of geese and a few gophers but no crows) so it could be a day or two before I put the snow shovel away :D To me its just another typical March:)

Same date every year. By the amount of the white stuff I moved this morning its late but even weather people get it wrong. I like Bud's version. Saw a muskrat running around last week but with the melt we had that was predictable. Crows, geese, robins all liked the warm spell but now their butts are in snow here. Central AB>
