My grandfather recently passed away and left me his old single barrel bolt action shotgun and i can not for the life of me figure out how to get this bolt off. I have tried holding in the trigger and pulling back. Any ideas? I have no idea what this shotgun is there are ZERO markings on it. Only the odd 4 digit action markings. help?

Some of those old pieces you push forward on the trigger and that releases the bolt. FS

Yup, either back or forward on the trigger.
I have seen n e that required the action come out of the stock, but it was very unique.

Looks like an old Prussian 1873 Mauser. :D Some of these were converted to shotguns. As I recall, involves a screw driver and removing a screw. Check the net. I'm sure you'll find it there. No time this morning but I'll check Barnes book on bolt action rifles tonight.
