For anyone with a knowledge of the Winchesters commemorative guns. I have a Winchester Cheyenne set, gold plated?, one a 9422 and the other a model 94 in 44-40. Seems to me, this set should have matching serial numbers, question is, should this set have matching serial numbers? I have a set that are not matching. 9422 is CHF1020 and the 44-40 is CHO867. I ordered this set with a buddy who also ordered a set at the same time. He is deceased now and I can’t find out what his serial numbers were in case we had a mix up. These guns, have been in my closest for 30 years. Also I have Diamond Jubilee, Saskatchewan and Alberta set, in silver plated?. 75 years from 1905 to 1980, both model 94 in 38-55 with matching serial numbers, ADJ438 and SDJ438. I would like to know what the value for each of these guns are. None of the 4 guns have been fired and all are in original boxes. Or tell me where I can find this information.

Thanks for your time

I have an Alberta DJ Deluxe. 3000 Jubilee Winchesters were built in 1980 for both provinces. The first 300 serial # ADJ1(SDJ1) to ADJ300 (SDJ300) were Deluxe and came in a hardwood case with green felt, provincial emblem in case with wood plaque that matched the province borders with the serial # and a pewter medallion. The 300 Winchesters had deluxe stocks, different sights and a diamond in the front sight. Those were about $1750.00. The remaining 2700 Winchesters of each sets were numbered ADJ301 to ADJ3000 and had a wood stock with medallion in the stock and did not come with the Deluxe additions. They were about $600/$700. The 36th Edition Blue Book of Gun Values US$ 2015 prices: Deluxe $1795, Regular $995.00, For your info.

According to Duncan Barnes's book entitled The History of Winchester Firearms 1866-1980, the Cheyenne Carbine and Cheyenne Commemorative Rifle (M9422 and M94 rifle respectively) were sold as companion rifles separately. This would indicate to me that the serials numbers would not match unless the original buyer was very lucky or had an "in" at the plant.
Of the M94's, 11,500 were made and 5375 M9422's were made, both at Winchester's Cobourg Ontario plant.
The Blue Book list the .22 at $950 in 100% condition and the 44-40 at $895 in 100% condition. The values drop drastically from there if not 100% and 100% means the same condition that the rifle and box came off the assembly line, that means no rub marks on the box and no finger prints on the rifles! The market for these is small but it does exist, the problem is that Winchester made too many of the commemorates and ruined the value of them so realistically, the 44-40 is probably worth quite a bit less than the .22 just based on the fact that twice as many were made.
