I just heard on the news an older man was reported to have been ice fishing at chain lakes and never returned. Police tracked his footprints and snowmobile track on to the lake and to a hole in the ice. The assume the man has drowned.

A 74-year-old Calgary man is presumed drowned following an ice fishing trip near Nanton.

RCMP say he may have fallen through the ice and died.

The man left home on Wednesday for a day of ice fishing and when he failed to return home as scheduled, his family went looking for him and found his truck at the Chain Lakes area near Nanton.

Officers arrived at the scene and found footprints and sled marks leading out onto the frozen lake to an open hole in the ice.

Calgary fire crews have been called to the scene to recover the body.

The RCMP are reminding people that ice can be treacherous at this time of year with areas of thick ice interspersed with thin ice.
