I was looking for some .308 ammo for my Norinco M14 today. Hoping to find some Mil-surp stuff. I ended up buying a 200 round pack of Nosler Custom Trophy Grade ammo instead. $175 for 10 boxes of 20 rounds. 165 gr Accubond bullets. I couldnt pass it up. Now, I can save my brass and reload if the mood strikes me. I just need to get to the range and see how it performs in the Norinco.

Don't defile that great and gorgeous ammo by firing it through that m305! Thats pricey stuff, good deal indeed.

Haha! Need some help using it up??? Sounds like fun for you next time at the range.

Wolverine sports carries .308 fmj for $8.50 a box when you run out check them out. Havent used any but that's what I'm trying when I start running out.

Factory loaded commercial hunting 165's in a M14, or M305, will likely get you a bent op-rod for your troubles.

There is a specific burn rate which has to be maintained in these firearms, stuff like BLC2, and 4895 are at or about the proper burn rate...Some fellers are reporting Varget is even a bit on the slow side, of optimum.

Some good reads;

Where did you find the good deal on the ammo if you don't mind me asking? Anything on sale besides the .308?

Thanks for the reading material Dick284. I have used factory ammo as well as Mil-surp ammo in my Norinco. No damage yet. I strip it and clean it after every range visit.

He's probably referring to these guys in Red Deer (near Costco):

But could possibly mean these guys (small town Manitoba):

Cleaning has nothing to do with the op-rod getting bent because the propellent produces abrupt and above necessary pressures, at the gas port .
Bend it and the rifle will fail to function, then you're pretty much SOL, till you buy a new one.

It's your rifle, but I know op-rods don't grow on trees in Kanada, and have fun getting one out of the US, without getting a major bloody nose over the price, and having to do some neat dancing too.

Good Shooting

I never meant that cleaning would prevent my op-rod from being bent. I meant that I have fired different factory ammo loads in the past and never noticed any detrimental effects after each range session. Not disputing your advice. Just clarifying my post.
