Anyone got a can't miss minnow pattern they want to share. I've been thinking about making one with a muddler head but getting some marabou involved somewhere to get a little movement. Anyone?

what will you be targeting?

As pikergol said it does depend on what species you are targeting but I've had a lot of luck tying and fishing Bow River Buggers and the like, here are my latest. As you see I like a healthy collar. They seem to work well not only on trout in the Bow but I also use them on Lakers with great results.

Hey Lornce,

Can we get a close up on the bugs in the bottom right corner?

Just to step out of the box a bit....this fly is unreal during the summer for larger trout foraging on baitfish in lakes. These also work deadly for bulls and browns in rivers.

That's a sweet looking fly TyreeUM! Looks like it would work great on one of my favorite lakes where minnows are the food of choice for the rainbows. Doc Spratley works good, but I'm always on the lookout for another angle. Did you ty it yourself, and if so, would you be willing to sell me a few? Thanks....Dean.

haha you don't want me tying this for you, trust me!

It is called a "Supervisor" though, you should be able to dig up some info on tying it for you - otherwise I can ask my buddy to type out a step by step and I will send it to you.

im assuming your target is trout.

i stopped using marabou as tail material as its not very durable for bulls and big trout. the only exception is i use a yellow marabou muddler for fall cutts that i strip in on the surface just to watch cutties try catch it.

i find rabbit it stronger and provides more pulsating action. i tie them from 2,5 inches for stream fishing to 8 inches long for trolling on kootenay lake

Chub is that mylar tubbing on the bodies? I've order some muted maribou colors, never even thought of rabbit. Will see how the maribou works then may change to rabbit. The flies all look awesome guys!

I enjoy tying and using muddler minnows. Lots of people over the years have said no I think I will use something different. But the proof is in the pudding as they say. I have caught some great rainbows, browns and bulls on the muddlers in the Bow.

Here are a few of my favorite muddler patterns.

Bow River Bugger

The Bow River Bugger is not a true muddler. But it is close enough that you could call it that. They both represent a sculpin which is one of the target species that the trout in the Bow go after.

Cheers,
Rob

I'm just looking for a generic minnow, not sure what the are but are a dull brown. I can't seem to get a response to a Doc Spratley but I can see the brookies darting in for minnows.

I don't tie either, but I'll try to track some down. Thanks! Have a great weekend.

no problem. I know the jungle cock (the "eye") is hard to come by so you may have to improvise. Good luck - it is a great streamer. I used to use it quite a bit when I was living in Maine. Most of the streamer patterns I grew up fishing just dont seem to work as well out here, but the supervisor seems to work no matter where I fish it.

Hey Chub,

I'm heading to Kootenay this summer what color schemes do you like to use for your 8" double bunnies if you don't mind me asking?
