It's going to be a while yet.

I took these photos this afternoon at the Ghost public boat launch and overlooking Barrier lake. It was on and off again raining and 8 degrees at both Ghost and Barrier.

That's about ten feet of water in front of the ice at the Ghost boat launch.

Barrier is not powerboat ready yet either. It's covered all but for infront of the outlet at the dam.

Sorry guys, but we won't be in the boats this weekend on Barrier or Ghost.

Barrier is ice free at the South end, we were up there this aft but the water level is real low If the boat launch was open you would have to drive onto the beach to get a boat off a trailer as the launch will be high and dry

Did you notice if there was enough ice off anywhere on Ghost for shore casting by chance?

Yes, further west into the Reserve, Ghost is wide open as of Friday afternoon.

I would imagine with the rainstorms projected for this week that it should be ice-free by this weekend. But, no expectations that it will happen that way :)

Wow that's a great idea

How far can you cast with that setup?

My arms are tired from paddling.

I fished the west end of the lake on Saturday and on the way back it looked like the main lake had started to break up.

Any word on the launch at the sailing club?
Ice or no Ice
that is the question?
Thanks

Still mostly ice as of yesterday. Can start to see open water looking north from the bridge where the ghost river comes in but has a ways to go to hit the north launch. To the west is open almost to Ghost Village. If the weather would smarten up it would only be about another week I would guess.

With the right line, usually a lighter braid, and a heavy-ish spoon you can get it out there 125-150yds sometimes.

And as of yesterday, I was fishing the dam, and fished along the cliffs passed the park by the boatlaunch. Lake seemed completely ice free, except for the inlet from Ghost River.

Anyone with a recent update on Ghost ice level/conditions? Is the ice all gone now? I'd imagine with all the rain that we've had...

Kinda says it all I think.

If it ever stops raining I will be putting the boat in this week.

I fished Ghost today and when I was heading into Cochrane for lunch I saw some boats towing the docks out around the launch.

Yeah, the docks were out yesterday when we got there at around 1pm.

It was a good first day of boating!

Put in 8 hours on Ghost yesterday, fishing was slow. Heard of a couple small ones being caught.

Absolutely gorgeous day on the water. Had a great time despite the slow bite.

Yeah, I was out for only about 3-4 hours but the fishing was non-eventful. Not even a bite, but oh well. Like you said, it was a great day to be out

We were also at Ghost yesterday, beautiful day for boating, even saw one guy water skiing and one jet skier (wearing wet or dry suits of course) caught zero! fun day out for sure!

The Fisherman Guy

You have to hand it to us Canadians. The ice came off the water less than a week ago, and there is a guy WITHOUT a wetsuit, ripping the water up on a new jet ski.

I would say that guy has balls...Cold, and hiding balls.

Was out this morning for a few hours. Not too windy, water temp is 43 so not bad.

Fished the west end, caught one small brown and that was about it.

Think I'll give er another go in the morning. Should be some lakers lurking around the shallows for sure.
