Hi guys, I was wondering what the regulation is for children hunting small game like rabbit. All I can find in the regs is this: "A youth must be at least 12 years old to hunt under the authority of any hunting licence in Alberta." but rabbit does not require a license so not sure what to make of it. Does anyone know?

My boys have been shooting gophers since 8 or 10 , all I have cared about at that age was within arms reach.

age 12 is minimum for a win card but rabits you dont need a liecence to shoot-a 2 year old could legaly shoot a rabit

I am sure in the old days of southern ontario when i was growing up we all carted our 22 rifles to the apple orchard on the edge of town and "hunted" with no one bothering us. We were probably 10-12 years old.
Now with hunting licence, PAL requirements (even a minor permit) and the public perception a firearm may be a threat those days will never happen again.
As long as they are under adult supervision I don't think any age is too young to start. Technically without an adult I don't think they can be unaccompanied until they are in late teens and perhaps 18 when they have their own PAL.

I had my 5 yr old out gopher hunting last weekend and we had a blast spending the day blasting rodents. Need I mention she didn't leave my side. She didn't shoot any but we still had fun
