Hey folks, I probably know the answer but does anyone know if it's thawed yet?
Thanks!

The road doesn't open until June

Probably doesn't matter. I believe that's adjacent to the part of highway 40 that's closed until June, no?

Pretty high elevation lake...I seriously doubt it. I've been in there in mid-late May a few times in past years and it was still always frozen solid.

Pretty easy bike ride to there.

its not far off the road block though, tbh. Go ahead and take a auger with you and see if you can't slay some little brookies :)

Dont waste your time at this lake unless 6 inch brookies turn you on

yeah it sucks up there. terrible spot. might as well sit on a park bench in downtown calgary and watch the pigeons.

sometimes it's not only about the quality of the fish or fishing. fish and their size means little to me surrounded by this.

We were up at Upper K yesterday and it was still 99% covered with really bad ice, Lower K was maybe 30% ice free. I'm not sure how high Elbow lake is relative to those two but I'd bet it'll be still covered with ice as it's more sheltered.

Great outlook, Dace. I'm of the same mind... though I don't mind pigeon watching, either.

I can 100% guarantee that Elbow is still frozen solid, though there'll be a fair amount of overflow on it. Road won't be melted off all the way to the summer trailhead, either. Perhaps if you're interested in a "triathlon" style day (biking, skiing, fishing). Of note, there is some pretty serious hangfire above highway 40. This is the time of year those paths are running with full length (and beyond) climax events. It'd be a silly place to be doddering along with a pulk full of icefishing gear on a warm spring day. Look up, way up, and travel appropriately. Early starts a must.
