Ever heard of this? Old-timer buddy of mine claims to have lost one to a less than reputable Edmonton gun shop that closed some years back.....

242 Belted Rimless H&H ( wildcat from Ackley Vol.1) maybe, or a 242 Rimless Nitro Express (By Vickers 1922) perhaps, but never a 242 Remington.
I would almost think he means 244 Remington, which is nothing more than a 6mm Remington with a slower twist barrel.
Best be clarifiying this with him.

I ould lay odds that it was a 244 Remington.
Was it a pump or semi?

Believe it was a bolt gun and definitely .242. The Remington part must have been an incorrect assumption on my part (bad memory??). Just checked with him - it was in a Winchester rifle and the caliber stamping was ".242 Win". He figures the rifle was 1960's build date, and they used to fire the thing using 6mm ammo, as they had no way to find any in .242. Came from a former F&W officer turned gunsmith in Southern Alberta many years ago (Brooks). Interesting story!

It's a 244 Remington, same bloody thing as a 6mm Remington just with a 1 in 12 twist. (wont stabilize 100gr bullets)
Some one either botched the barrel stamp, or had a sense of humour.
If he has any fired cases a few pictures would solidify my assumptions.(99.5% sure)
