My wife, son (Stevennoel to fellow forum members) and I were drawn as a group for Class A at Pigeon Lake. It should be interesting to try and catch 2 over 50 cm. each. Can't wait to try. Happy fishing! GN :):):)

I save the money to put in my tank to go to lakes I dont need tags. Not against the idea, but Pigeon walleye is average at best.

Wow, what a differance between two provinces, I have a cottage in North central sask the lake we are on is loaded with walleye. the limit is 5 person and the bite is hot. I just can't imagine needing to apply for a draw to catch walleye. But I guess it is what it is

Alberta Fish And Wildlife laws are a complete joke. They do more harm than good. Saskatchewan and Manitoba have it right. I understand there are more lakes in those provinces. But why not have a simple slot size instead? Alberta is the best province to live in as far as I'm concerned but why gouge us like this? It's all about the money in this province.

I suspect they see very little money from this draw. Lots of hands out before the government gets any.

Fishermen per lake is why it has to be different....i like slot sizes too...but a bunch of alberta lakes get hit harder than SK and MB lakes.

Ive lived near lac ste anne for 16 years and have watched them bring it back to a great walleye lake...and the pike are still good in there too.

ill pay 13 bucks(or more) every year for the rest of my life to see it stay that way...open that lake up to a general slot harvest and it will be collapsed again in no time.

X 3 Great reply . I think that can be said with all or most of the lakes that currently are under the Walleye Draw , I think with do time there will be many more lakes , which is probably a really good thing .

As for myself I dont bother with the draw , Im not a huge fish eater would sooner take a steak over fresh fish any day .

I got Class A Pigeon lake and my fiancee Class B Lac La Nonne. The Walleye draw is a beautifull thing. The people who bash it dont understand it. Alberta 800 fishable lakes-4 million people. Saskatchewan and Manitoba 100000+ fishable lakes, not even half the population combined as Alberta. Do the math.......:thinking-006:

It could happen, they are reducing most lakes down to 3 walleye limit.

Its actually all about trying to manage a prescious resource. There is no way that some of these lakes can sustain an open season as they were in the past or they would just return to the collapsed or vulnurable fisheries that they were before, so they are put to a draw system. I dont necessarily agree with it either, I believe the changes need to come in the form of slot size limits much the same as Sask and Manitoba do.

On a side note, I was drawn last year for walleye on Newell. And without a boat it was difficult. 2 of the days I gave up and went to Rolling hills and would have been able to fill tags there had I actually applied for them instead. We managed 1 walleye at Newell ice fishing this passed winter out of 3 trips and it was a solid 28". We couldnt bring ourselves to put a tag in its mouth though, those are trophy fish!!

The problem with a slot size is that we in Alberta have a way higher angler per water system ratio then other provinces.

I was getting information for a buddy online and I came across a chart that had the ratio I mentioned and Alberta was way higher then anywhere else in Canada.
