My first bear EVER!!!

First real bow hunt too!!!
(I don't count the doe I took with my dad's bow back in '97)

So... about 30 minutes after getting to our setup. Two bears walk in. I am sitting 20 yards away. Neither sees me stand up and start to walk to where I can take a shot.

(I guess I am more afraid of heights than bears because I felt safer on the ground than in the tree stand)

The wind is constant in my direction, which makes me feel safe... all of a sudden a gust goes towards the bears for about 5 seconds.

This bear starts smelling the air so I freeze. It looks right at me. Starts to walk towards me. At about 10 feet it decides to start to circle me.

He looks forward, I draw my bow. As soon as he is broadside with the front leg on my side forward, I release. He stumbles, makes it to his feet and runs about 40 yards before falling into a pile.

I estimate 10-15 foot shot. Kinda made the camera man nervous when I let him get so close.

I actually have a video of the shot, but I am just waiting for permission to post it. I will make a new thread if I do get permission.

Thanks for all the comments! It was an amazing hunt, and I sure do feel privileged to have had the opportunity to take a bear from 3 yards.

I actually found the broadhead poking out the opposite shoulder (it cut me a little bit), still sharp!
