I have used minnows all my life when chasing Walleye, whether jigging, trolling bottom bouncers or bait rigging. I have never tried the Berkleys Gulp minnows. What is everyone's opinion on them? Do they work? Do they stay on the hook better? Does the scent make them hang on a bit tighter?
I sure would be interested in others opinions.
Thanks

Nothing out fishes real bait. Only thing good about artificials is it lasts longer.

Well they definitely stay on the hook better as they are rubberized. They also catch fish very well too. I used to use standard rubber jigs on the NSR and done so-so. I would often use real minnows and worms and do better. I started using the Gulps 2 years ago and now use nothing else.....I have caught some very large Walleye with the Gulps.....ones I would not have caught on standard jigs as I have been fishing the river for 15 years. The Gulps DO work well. I have always fished them casting on a moving jig head. I don't think they would do that well as a static bait....but then again I have never tried.

I like the Gulp stuff when I'm actively casting/retrieving but for still fishing it's gotta be the real thing. :)

I agree, I have found this with most of the scented baits, works much better on a moving presentation, not as good on the slow or stationary ones.

I find that they work the same.

I perfer Gulp Minnows because you can wont have to buy them everytime you go out. It easy easy to choose a size, colour or scent. I find it a pain to go buy frozen minnows all the time.

I outfish real minnows with Gulp leeches all day long. my bait looks and smells good %100 of the time! minnows look like dog balls after tapping the bottom a few times. they are garbage and a waste of money.

have had lots of success with berkley hollow bellies in white. there is time when the fish will hit anything and times where real good bait is worth its weight in gold.

Has anyone ever tried gulp on a jig under a slip-bobber? Minnows work well but I've never tried it with gulp.

minnows for me...

just hate having stinky fingers all the time.

i think they outperform plastic for still fishing but plastics have more action when moving.

7 bucks for a tub or 7 bucks for 6 plastics.

Its awsome! Walleye just love it! Trigger X was pretty much made for walleye fishing, and they put a lot of science into it.

Both leeches and minnows both work amazing
