I have lived in Chestermere my whole life, have not caught a legal sized pike in about 5 years or so. Many years ago used be some perch in there. I have had people tell me they have caught some big sized trout in Chestermere in the last couple years, but I won't believe it until I see it. Average size pike seem to be 20-22cm. Good little lake to take your kids to, almost a given they will catch something. On the down side of things lots and lots of poaching goes on in this lake, winter and summer, I have seen it fist hand year after year. I approached people keeping illegal fish, phoned RAP numerous times over the years. Fishing out of season is also a problem out here. If you're looking for your trophy pike, this ain't the lake!

My 2 cents.

where would you guys suggest for trophy size, not to keep of course, let it grow bigger for the next Tophy hunter!

I would suggest some of the lakes in southern Alberta. McGregor and Newell would be a couple. Do a search on the forum for pike fishing and you should come up with a boat load of info. Good luck!

I just realized in my first post, I put 20-22cm...I actually meant inches.

Does anyone know if the boat launch is open? Also what is the water level like? I saw it a few weeks back and they had cement blocks blocking the launch and the water level so very low. Anyone have an update?

Yes, the boat launch is open. I don't think you have to pay to launch it yet either...

Back in the late 80's 11-13" perch could be caught my biggest pike is 5 pounds seen a picture of one int paper years ago the a guy caught throw the ice that weighed 16 pounds i know hard to imagine. The lake now is toast development and recreation use has pretty much left it a hammer handle factory.Ranger rick also told me ounce they busted a guy netting the lake and was charged with over 50 fish,so that dosen't help.
