I'm sorry if this has already been discussed but i am taking my 16year old brother in law out for his first bear and i was wondering if there was anywhere relatively close to Calgary to go spot and stalk some blackies. I hate to ask but i just moved down here from Edmonton and i don't really know the area any help would be greatly appreciated,
thx

The closest place is probably right around Edmonton : ) grab a regulations and go west wherever it is open and you spend enough time you will have a blast and probably even see a bear. Head for crown land and don't waste your time with landowners close the city. Just my advice lots of great bear country around

Lot of places around Calgary, you MIGHT get lucky. Try west of Longview. Lot of country there, where quads won't interfere with your hunt. :D

I've had luck in the Porcupine Hills (not as many bears as up north for sure but they are around), try glassing from Skyline road.

The closest would be up by Rocky Mountain House, not many bears up there to my perspective though.

Actually alot closer than you think. I've seen a few taken out of 212 over the years. The hard part is getting permision.

45 minutes west of calgary zones 412,414, lots of bears, hits the top of the clear cuts and start looking, all crown land.
