I've heard great things about large Pike at West Twin Lake near Winfield. I've even seen several from the dock the Diving Club built....

BUT

To date I have caught none! I've gone twice in summer and twice in winter. This year I'm going to try again a few times. There are also Perch there, not sure how they fish, so I am going to try some Perch looking lures or the scented Perch Storm hooks.

I was at coal today in my aluminum boat. Fishing was very slow for us as well. Caught 3 small ones in about 6 hours. First time on that lake. I did see floating dead pike.

I caught on in an hour at coal today.
I was in my inflatable and caught it just south of the launch.
About 16"

No, that was another guy. An Asian guy. I talked to him he only caught 1.
I was getting in the water as he was leaving. He had a seamax cover on some other brand boat. Nice guy.

Got there at 8, by 9:30 had caught 5, all released. 32cm,54cm, 56cm, 59cm, and a 61cm. All super healthy. In the wake boat, last one out. Fishing not wake boarding.

Winter Killed?? :thinking-006:

Sorry, don't think so. Be patient and spend more time at it guys. It's not what it used to be, but I think you can still do alright.

So on the original question....fishing from shore? Coal Lake has a few spots, Battle River below Driedmeat, and the Battle River south of Forestburg are all possibles for the bank bound fisherman.

Got a small boat then try Battle, Coal, Wizard, and maybe the dam at Forestburg. Further out Gull, Buffalo, and Medicine are also OK. Pigeon and Buck can be a lot of hours between pike if you don't know the lakes.

If you just want to catch big Pike close to Edmonton then the NSR is likely your best bet.
