Is there anywhere I can go for grayling this time of year within 2-3 hours of edmonton?

out edson way, or just north of swanhills area.... unless the rivers are not opened to fishing yet, never checked.

Check the regs. I am not sure when it opens up but the Freeman River Approximately 20 km’s southwest of Swan Hills off Hwy. 32 by Swan Hills has grayling in it. Krause Lake up by SH also has grayling.

Also there are a few creeks farther up north by Red Earth that also have grayling in it. Probably lots more up there. I am sure others will chime in.

I usually go to the Freeman or Little Smoky but they both are closed until may 31. Just wondering if anyone knows of a river that is open before may 31 with grayling

I do lots of stream fishing between Edson and Robb but nothing is open till June 1st every year.

Not much, the places that are open already are either entering runoff or simply don't have very many. The area around Edson/Robb could really use a stocked grayling fishery. Streams don't open till mid June, and then you have to cover a lot of water to catch many. Im still rooting for Coal Valley pit or two with a grayling fishery. That would be my dream addition to the area, such pretty fish.

Check your regulations, see what's open and do some exploring with a back roads book. There is some simply outstanding grayling fishing 3 hours from Edmonton. Was out last weekend and the quality and number of fish was remarkable....just get off the beaten path. River was in prime shape as well.

It's always hit and miss early on. Was out a couple weeks earlier and the river was frozen, tried it again last weekend and jackpot. Fished all afternoon with no other anglers.
