So I hope to one day travel the world catching freshwater fish. Im not catching any river monsters but I want variety from catfish to pike.

Im looking for a good pack rod but I dont want a simple cheap ugly stick. I want something a little nicer. Just want to know what you guys think of these 2 rods:

-Rapala, magnum, 4 piece travel rod
-Okuma NOMAD, travel spinning rod

As for the reel, im looking at the shimaro sahara

I just took a look at both of those rods this past weekend. I bought the Rapala magum. Quality seemed a bit better and the tubular case packs smaller. I am a complete fishing newb but I pulled a pike out of the NSR on Sunday with it, so take it FWIW.

Not sure about the rapala rods but okuma does make a great product!

St. Croix has a travel Premier rod for about $160
Temple Fork Outfitters (TFO ) Has probably the best bang for the buck.
7 ft med heavy or heavy 3 pc sensitive graphite lifetime warranty for $140

Wholesale Sports carries them.

I have a St. Croix Premier travel rod. It is very good. A little light (I got the 6' 4 piece 4 - 8 lb), but they do have a heavier one (7' 3 piece 6 - 12 lb).
I am heading to Mexico in December. I am in the process of ordering a custom surf rod, but I am also looking real close at the Nomad for rock fishing. Looks like a good stout rod. Too short for the surf, but good for working the rocks.

It may be a little lighter than you're looking for, but a couple years back I picked up a Fenwick HighLander pack rod from CT on sale for around $40 but regular price is $80. 4 piece 7' ML 4-10lb test 1/8-5/8oz lure weight.

instead of starting a new post, ill resurect this one.

Just bought the rapala magnum 4 piece 7' travel rod from tfh today. $55, wondering if anyone has used it or know anything about how well it will work for travelling to mexico for some random shore/dock fishing this time, but anywhere really in the future.

may stick it in my truck so if im ever out driving and see an opportunity, can pull this rod out.

I stuck an older shimano 4000 reel onto it with some 12lb flourocarbon, should get the job done I think

Any ideas? Anyone have any travel rods they like?

I cant seem to find anything on this rod online for reviews.
