In 1972 my dads NAIT biology class organized a school trip to do a float on the Red Deer River. Every June since then we continue to reunite from all over Alberta and do the float. Its my absolute favorite favorite trip of every year :).
This year the water was the highest and fastest I have ever seen it. The weather turned out to be a lot better then we had thought with tons of sun showers and barely any wind. This year about 15 canoes/kayaks/pontoons launched on the river. Two canoes flipped from trying to beach in the fast current but everyone would race over and help out. Majority of the float we all tie up and create a floatella but when the wind started to pick up we all break apart and start paddling. I had my little motor on my pontoon and I noticed the canoers were getting further and further ahead of me and at one point for about 45 minutes I could not see a soul infront or behind me.. started to get a little freaky lol.
Some of us did a little bit of fishing on the river but the water was like chocolate milk and very fast so fishing was a little short lived. I do have some pictures of the float though so I figured Id share some of them with you guys.
