Battle lake camping and fishing trip )pic heavy(

[BGSH]

Well a buddy of mine were going to go to the bighorn dam and fly fishing for the weekend but with the flood watch in effect for the n.s.r and maybe even some wet snow up there we thought we would wing it with battle lake since it has a mountain like feel to it as you would feel as though you are up in the Nordegg area, off we went, get on the road and first thing i know is we forgot a map, that is ok though just go to Pigeon lake and then follow that dirt road around there or whatever and by luck we found it, first thing is first when you get to the camp site with me never set up camp first ever, always fish first lol, and first cast caught one right away a small pike, fished till dark, set up camp, get the fire going and chill out for a bit, my hair was soaked and i thought i forgot the hair gel but nope i had reserves in the truck :) so all was good, loved the mountain feel to this lake, pike were in a range from 12-28 inches, also saw netting going on for whitefish and huge whites they were, only one guy caught a walleye all trip for that dude, wicked lake, i recon for anyone to go to that lake and camp, very clean and very relaxing besides being wet the whole trip it was a success.

It is a nice campground. One of the few around that is strict with noise and partiers. Beautiful quiet lake. Glad you enjoyed.

After being bit off way to much using jigs i thought to try a leader using a jig but have never caught fish well using a leader with a jig combo

Went on a 10 km hike and this was the tallest widest tree i had ever seen in Alberta

We landed over 70 pike and lost a ton more, had a blast on the ultra light UGLY STICK, was not looking for size on this trip, just some scrappy pike.

Funny thing was soaked and wet i went and fished the n.s.r on the way back from Battle lake and caught 5 snagged suckers bu accident and 1 walleye.

From HWY 2 take HWY 13 West....past pigeon and keep going....if you hit Buck Lake you went too far :)

shaun...... the last pike pic with that hue and such small white spot markings looks alot like the rare "silver" pike. very cool. maybe you caught a silver with the mutation not being very predominant hence the tiny white spots? that would be cool!

Are there showers, and a playground, these two things are need to satisfy, my camping companions. The daughter needs a playgrounds, and the spouse needs a shower. Gone are the days of pulling down a cut-line and finding a space big enough to set the tent up!.

There are showers much better then lake Wabamuns showers and cheaper at 1 dollar for 8 minutes and very hot, there also is a playground and free firewood.

I don't know anything about silver pike....but that last one has coloration like I have never seen.

Leave it BGSH to catch something unique....he has a knack for fishing no doubt.

i think silvers are caught more out east. wonder if there are any "blue"walleye/pickerel left in the great lakes region? tyree? are the blues exctinct?

Weird thing is caught over 30 of these Silver pike in one area of the lake, and this area was very creepy to say the least.

yup, very cool, i beleive commercial fishing for blues just about wiped them out........ cool catch.
