Hey Jasper Folks,
I'm up there (townsite) next week for work. Lake Annette is close to where I'm staying. Is it worth wetting a fly line? I won't have a vehicle, so I'm restricted to where I can walk to. And the AthaB will undoubtedly be blown out. Regards,
HK

Staying at the Lodge are ya?
Probable not worth it.
It doesn't really hold a fishery, for game fish anyway. You hear of the odd brookie spotted by scuba divers, but haven't heard of anybody catching anything outta there in recent history.
And yes, the AthaB is blown out as are most others I would think.

I have dived in Lake Annette. The area west of the lodge and golf course have natural springs litterally shooting into the lake under hydrostatic pressure. The area around the springs is ice cold. No food, No fish.
Otherwise, at this time of year there are bzillions of tiny chironomids right in or below the surface layer. You can see the hemoglobin in their abdomen.
The bottom is loon poop, but I sat on the bottom on a rock pill one day and watched the brookies cruise under the surface with mouths slightly open to collect these red chironomid.
If Alberta Diver is around he could probably tell you even more.

I think there are more than a few brookies, but they are all small.
Remember if there are lots of little fellas out there, there has to be a few Boss Hoggs cannabilzing on her children, or relatives.

Yes. The monsters are found in Maligne. In the 50 foot zone :scared0018:

if you can get to where the Maligne runs in .. ride a bike you can borrow from lodge and ride 4miles to where it runs into the Athabasca and fish on the east side just down stream in the clear water u can catch Rmwf or bulls or trout or catch a tour bus leaving to go to Maligne lake and fish it.. or better yet rent a guide for 250$ for a afternoon and have a blast on Maligne but make sure you get a senior guide.. enjoy your stay go to Online Sports and look at pic's

There are lots of suckers in the lake.. So you have to be sure of what you are looking for.
And did anyone see any Brookies recently like in the last couple of years ???

Thanks for the tips gentlemen, especially about borrowing the bike. I'm aware that I'm about two and a half weeks early for the objectives in the area I find most interesting to even open for the season. Also not sure what sort of free time I'll be getting, but it doesn't look like much. Good thing it'll be light 'til 11:00pm this time of year.
I don't often get further north than Sunwapta Ranger station. Love the fact that Jasper's even BIGGER than Banff, and has even more to explore. That Maligne Lake looks to be some fishery. Very much enjoyed the other thread which most of you have piped up on. That'll be for someday when I'm on holidays. And have a boat. And have heavy spinning gear. And know a thing or two about trolling.
Thanks kindly, and tight lines to y'all.
