we caught 2 pike tonight, at least a half mile apart, that had the same type of wound. dont see many prop boats in that lake so I rather doubt thats the cause. didnt get any real good pics. Any ideas? one was a couple pounds, the other 5 or 6 pounds. they were otherwise pretty healthy

Not sure where you were fishing Wayne, but I have seen this back in the day:mad0100: 2/0 Treble hooks in shallow water when the spawn was on, before the big ones begin to feed.

Those aren't prop cuts, those would look completly different.
I'd say birds....

It's blatantly obvious to me that it is some kind of Deformation caused by the Tarsands.

Enjoy those pike now; in 3 or 4 months they will be extinct.

could be hooks, or fight scars, the bigger one had one on each side though. lots of predator birds in the area, but they dont look like talons or beak wounds, big scoop type holes not something sharp.

The wounds may have been sharp at one point but are now healing over?

If I was out east I would say eels are to blame but I didn't think we had them here...

nah they were pretty big chunks missing. if it was an eagle I doubt it would have let go, and pelican eat them whole. maybe they were vegetarians just trying a bite? they actually looked like they were made by human teeth, but the Mennonites would never let them escape

Yeah but the Hutterites would! That way, they could have "little-bite Pike lunches" during the summer and still be able to sell the same fish Whole come winter time.

I can't see the lesions very well in the photos but it very well might be Pike "Red Sore". The time of the year is correct etc. It's at it's height in the spring after the spawn. Some think it's caused by a virus others by bacteria (esp Aromonas hydrophila). Generally gets better later as water temps warm up.
