Highway is open as of June 15. As for the lakes, the trail up may be a little wet due to the rain, and the lakes could still have some minor ice.

I think you have to wait until it opens for fishing on July 1st.

Ice came off on July 2 a couple of years back. Nothing over 13 " here but worth the 3 hour hike. The Picklejar trail does not get you to the lake. Go to lantern creek trailhead.

There is still a lot of snow up in Kananaskis right now, you should check out trail conditions. Just doing a bit of hiking on the trail that goes around Upper K Lake was a challenge, with the snow was hip deep in spots.

You CAN get in from the elbow river side, but as was said, there will be lots of snow, and no fishing till open.

I did the mountain bike loop (Big elbow) a few years back and we had a great time. Parked the bikes, hiked into tombstone, caught a few fish, and then biked back out.

SNOW, SNOW, and MORE SNOW.

Was just up that way today. We did Rummell Lake today, and the ice is still on the lake, thin and melting on the edges. Hip deep snow in some places to get through. I imagine Picklejar is very much the same.

Give it a week of good temps and it should be decent. Streams running fast in the mountains right now.

Was up at Running Rain Lake yesterday. Snow on the lake and the trail in. Still way to early for the Kananaska lakes, fly rod never came out of the case. One interesting thing though....there were cougar tracks inside of mine on the way out!

The lakes are open.. Because of there location they get more sun then those on the west side of the road.

I hiked in to Picklejar on Friday night, took about 2 hrs at a steady sweaty pace with all of my camping gear for two nights. Not much snow left at all, just patches here and there. Was a busy weekend up there. Caught quite a few small cutties (mostly 8 to 10", biggest was 14") in the 3rd (deepest lake). They are all cruising the shallows looking for food. Sneak up and get a beadhead nymph in front of them and you can't keep them off the line.
