Not perfect, but as good as it gets after 12 hour dayshift and reffing two hockey games.

Heres my first one! What do ya think? Bad lighting / camera (Damn blackberry bold) will have better photo's when I catch a fish with that :)

I'm saving it for a real fish, not something that grew up in a swimming pool full of pellets :)

That looks like a good leech pattern. For a first tie, definitely a good job.

Looks good man, have you heard of a fly called the 'usual'?

Great fly for beginners and produces. I think all you need is some rabbits foot.

very nice fly for a first attempt, my first was made out of xmas tree tinsel, red plastic bags and sewing thread . the gf at the time held vice grips as my vice. still caught a pike with it. you are way ahead of my first flies.

I just don't want to remember some little 8" rainbow as the first fish I catch on a fly I tied, as I can catch those with a rectangle piece of cucumber attached to a thumb tack, know what I mean?

Try using a shorter tail, the long one will look unnatural in the current.

LOL... sad thing is, I keep ahold of my fly rod really well. I'm slowly becoming addicted to fly fishing, like you are to sturgeon and rattlesnakes :)

Here's a video showing how to tie the usual. Split wing or not is your choice.

You can fish it as a dry, emerger, even a nymph or hopper. good all round fly.

Used them a lot for brookies, rainbows and browns out east when I was a kid.

You can stick half a dozen in your hat and leave everything else at home.

Leeches and anything similar with a larger than 16 or 18 hook is good to learn on.
