Looks like were in the middle of another inter-season.

Rivers are high.

Tempers are short.

Same as around freeze up and ice off.

There's a couple weeks where everywhere you want to fish is more or less unfishable (although you try anyways).

Even the wife knows the fishing is junk where you usually go, and you have to make excuses about tuning the motor or testing out a new reel as you run out the door.

My spot is like one of those double smoked, thick sliced bacon-chocolate milkshakes they have a DQ (sans food poisoning). Thick and brown, with unidentifiable floaters.

Looks like it'll be WEEKS before it clears up.

I know I can head up into the mountains, or south east, but IDONTWANNA!

Anyhow, post here if you need to vent about conditions, brag about flossing a brown from the bow, or are interested in a community purchase of 10 tons of imodium to clean the river up.

Already did.

IDONTWANNA!

But I probably will.

Honestly though, my bro is sending me pics of 20lb chinooks and 15lb steelhead he's getting from shore of Lake Ontario, and I'm wondering when I can get out again to try for a 5-10lb brown, a 20" cuttie or another arm length bull trout.

Just ain't fair. I blame the guys who split limits ;)

The canoe goes on the roof in April and doesnt come off until December.

Except to get paddled or propelled around.

Oooooh, I forgot I'm supposed to go camping somewhere near the sheep river this weekend. Will have to make some calls.

Sure, where can I take my young nephew to catch a 10lb rainbow for a shore lunch within 1hr of calgary?

We tried PCR but all we caught was some 1lb sticklebacks and none of the trout were biting. I even tried marshmallows, the red ones.

Well, its official.. I am disappointed.. ARGGG

50-70mm rain by this evening where I am heading this weekend... Those rivers are going to be so blown out, I don't even know if I am going to be able to get to my camp.. river was really close to flooding the road last time I was there, probably screwed now.

Although conditions may not be ideal there is always some good fishing somewhere. Right now at Tobin the mud line is about half way thru the system And in a weeks time the whole system will be muddy so until then we are staying in front of the mud and fishing the clean water and doing extremely well. Yesterday i fished for a half day and boated 2 28 inch walleye and a 26 incher along with a dozen mid 30 inch pike. I fished an area i wasnt familiar with so i covered some ground with a heavey bottom bouncer amd a spinner and backtrolled at close to 2 mph, let me tell ya when those fish hit at that speed you better hold on. Last year during high water the pike fishing in the river portion was phenomenal, we took advantage of the high water allowing access to areas we normally cant get our boats to and had a lot of large pike success with even some bonus ultra shallow water walleye action. In heavey/dirty current Fish will concentrate into smaller areas so when you do find them it's fun to rip lips all day on em.

well yeah I could go hit up a reservoir or a lake... but the problem is I want to fly-fish flowing water...creeks, streams, rivers, and Camp while doing it. Nothing else is the same.

the first fish i caught on the day i got 6, was within 1 min of me fishing. i literally walked up to the bank, saw this fish feeding heavily right in front of me, i tied my fly on and first float i nailed him. thats what i miss haha. spotting the rising fish and having them leap out of the water and hammer the fly

this one cleared the water by at least a foot when he hit my fly

The fish on the bow were on fire right before runoff...dont expect fishing to be that good once the water comes down.
