View Full Version : And Then There Were Four...

Well I spent a peaceful day today by myself at outflow 57/58 downstream of Dawson Bridge. Fishing was slow and I donated an assortion of four rigs to the river (there must be some submerged concrete debris there).

But I caught my first Burbot!

Just a little guy, but a Burbot nonetheless. And so I have four more species to catch before I can truthfully state I have caught all the game fish in Alberta. Now where are all the Sturgeon, Sauger, Goldeye and Lake Whitefish at?

Nice work...I got a couple little guys around that size last weekend out by the Fort.

You're going to have to fish a long time before you get a lake white...however a rocky mountain white isn't out of the question, though I've only caught them very early in the spring.

I'd like to knock off the last four before I turn in 18 (not until February) so I might try my luck for Lake Whitefish at Wabamun or Pigeon with wireworms. I've already caught a few Mountain Whitefish this year, as I do every year, fishing foothill streams for trout.

Thank you, and overall I agree. I have a feeling that Lake Whitefish before ice up will be challenging, but I'd prefer not to cut it so close if I can avoid it. Consequently, any advice on fishing them during the open water season is appreciated.

No problem, if any group of people know the NSR you are among them. It just so happened that four of my last five, and now three of my last four are fish that can be caught in the river.

well done young man. nice burb, a clever fella would hit the red deer river soon. lake white fish can be had on the fly for the next week or so when the brown drakes come off. that's how I got my first. good luck on the quest.
