About a month ago I bought a $500 beater off Kijiji. It came with a 50hp mercury that needed some work so I bought another beater with a newer 40hp merc and swapped that onto the first one.

I've spent the last few weeks replacing the floor (**** poor job, but its a floor! Lol), and sanding the previous owners gray paint job off. The paint was terrible. It was orange underneath and I think I might go with the same color unless I decide to use the red I already have laying around. The orange looks pimpin'!

Anyways, I've had enough of working on this thing. Its time to see if it floats. So a buddy and I are heading south tomorrow morning bright and early. The motor is a bear to start so hopefully all goes well. Once it starts it restarts really easy so all should be good once we get her goin ;)

We havent really decided where we are going yet but it sounds like Clear and possibly PCR. If anyone see's a beat up old boat with an orange sanded top and a 40hp merc out there haulin' rear, feel free to touch base with us and say "Hi". We are both members on here although I cant recall his user name off the top of my head.

Im pretty stoked to break this boat in by christening it with its first fish while under my ownership. If all goes well, then I'll be motivated enough to continue working my rear off on it for another month or so. Possibly with the occasional trip here and there in the meantime.

I'd post pics, but its really nothing to look at at the moment.

PS: Anyone in south Calgary know their way around an outboard and like chatting and beer? I know my way around most other things powered by a motor, but outboards are alien to me. I'd love some knowledge if someone wants to hang out around the Sikome area some day! PM me!

Post some pics ! A boat is a boat is a a boat!

Better than the boat I don't have......lol

But....the wifey is letting me buy a new fishing boat in two Springs, as long as the motor is big enough to pull a tube around the lake for kids. Ahhhhhh can't wait for spring of 2014

When I first got it

No floor

The rear

The transom is rotten, but I'll deal with that over winter.

The old 1963 Merc

Runs beautifully but doesnt shift into reverse. Forward works great. I'll tear into it over the winter too as a spare power plant.

Put a quick floor in after replacing the center stringer

Not perfect and has a slight rise between the two sheets, but it'll do for me!

Here you can see the nasty silver paint

That just wouldnt do, so I've spent the last couple days sanding to get rid of it. Its orange underneath. With the orange wetted down it actually looks pretty wicked. I was debating painting it the same red color as my Yamaha R6, but I kinda like the orange!

You can also see the new(er) 1980 Mercury 40hp on the back. It runs amazing once its actually started and forward and reverse work flawlessly. We will see tomorrow how it runs at speed!

You can also see in some of the newer pics that I replaced the front hand winch and lengthened it a little bit to make it fit. The new one is a dual speed winch and it was larger than the previous one and wouldnt fit without lengthening the part that the winch sits on. No biggy, I have a welder.

Its more sanded than that now too. I took off the fish finder and sanded under there along with the dash and the inside pieces. Its basically just the splashwell that needs to be sanded down now, but that can wait until I'm ready to pull the motor back off and prime and paint it all at once. First I need to get some use out of this thing tho!

Also the floor is much more complete with many more layers on it now. Its glassed top and bottom and the stringer is completely encased in fiberglass as well. Still lots left to do! But I figure I should iron out some kinks by using it before I get too far into it ;)

Thanks. Its still FAR from done. I'll post some action pics from tomorrow and once I get the top in primer etc. I hope to have the entire cap in primer this week sometime. I only work 2 days out of 12 so I cant really complain this week!

Well, today sucked all around. The boat itself did great. But the motor needs some fine tuning for sure. I think Im gonna give in and try to find a shop that can take it and tune the crap out of the motor and make sure its in great running shape.

Next up is proper seats. Not too sure what to do on this front. Make new bases for the old seats, go new back to back folders, or pedestals.

On a side note, I was skunked at both Clear AND PCR! I cant believe it either, but its true. Ridiculous. I dunno if I just couldnt feel the bites because I didnt have my normal rod with me or what. But I was outfished by about 15 kids under 10yrs old.

Lol.
