View Full Version : Trout fishing within 2 hours of Slave Lake.
I want to take the family camping this weekend, looking for a trout lake within two hours drive. I've fished Chain lakes a few times and want to try somewhere else, theres a couple by Swan Hills as well but I'd like to be able to eat a couple. Thinking of heading out past High Prairy but not sure where to go.

Lily Lake?
I do go fishing there and its a nice lake but I have a daughter that is two and one that is 2.5 months. As far as a family camping trip Lilly is not an option. At this point I'm thinking either Swan Lake or Blue Lake out by Vallyview, anyone reccomend one over the other? Having a good camping experience is just as important to me as having good fishing. Both are important but I'd rather catch little trout and enjoy myself than catch big trout at a crowded lake where the campground is a zoo.

Do they still stock Atlantic Richfield reservoir by Swan Hills?

Edith Lake out of Swan Hills.
Edith has been perched, I fished it this spring and caught mostly perch. As well there is a warning on eating fish in that area. Nice little lake though.

Theres a small lake between High Prairie and Vallyview called East Dollar Lake, more of a pothole really, and the trout taste muddy. Its a fun little area to fish, just off the highway, but nothing for camping facilities.
Don't go there if you want fresh tasting 2 or 3 lbers though!

Yep they sure do!
Cal,
Its a shame what happened to Edith lake. Was a great little brook trout lake. It was mentioned before, but Carson is a great little lake for the family. Yes it can be busy but there is a nice beach and garunteed to catch fish.

I dont need much for camping facilitys, I dont mind paying for camping when using camping facilitys is necessary but I prefer not to use them whenever possible. Right now the wife wants to try Swan even though I told her the fish might be muddy.

Not sure if its true, haven't tried it yet. But just like duck breasts, if you soak your fish filets in milk they say it will take that "muddy" taste out of them.
