For walleye, bottom bouncers + spinners.

For pike, any number 7 rattlin' rapala, or len thompson spoons will work.

I have been using the Mepps cyclops (larges one in silver with yellow sticker) and a large diver that is silver with a big red eye on it (forget the name but I think its 13 or 14$). Been trolling them in some lakes east of calagry and always catch pike. I have never targeted walleye but I still get the odd one trolling with each of them.

It depends on whether you are trolling, casting, jigging, or ... (?).
If you are trolling, not too shallow (11-16 feet), it is very hard to beat the short fat diving cranks, floating or suspenders, like your basic fat raps and cordell versions, in the 3-4 inch sizes, in terms of quantity of strikes, and getting both pike and walleye, of any size. Colors vary in terms of effectiveness, from times and places of effectiveness, but "perch", red (in the Cordells), and anything predominantly "greenish" always produce. And the "old faithful" in my box is the long thin floating rapala, perch colors, that goes down about 7-9 feet when trolled on about 50-70 feet of line. I have one in my box that is just "ripped" with pike tooth marks and the back hooks almost shredded out, after 20 years (I've snapped it off 2-3 times, but it always floated back up and got retreived). That one almost always produces a pike or two when nothing else works. If I was only allowed one crank to troll in Alberta/Saskatchewan lakes, that one would be it.
In terms of "metal", trolled or cast, almost all the really big pike I have caught were on big Len Thompsons (yellow and red/black/green) or Williams "Whitefish" in various patterns and colours. Less quantity in terms of walleye "bycatch", but more potential for the "fat girls" in the pike universe. They work better in shallower trolling or casting situations. The biggest of last 2 years was caught by my youngest son trolling/jerking (very slowly, electic motor use). a "hammered" black, white, and gold Williams.
I haven't done much jigging or bait fishing for many years, so leave that to the "experts". What I do know is that once you find and park over a good school of walleye I find that any 1/2 ounce jig head ( I like white, but...?) with good bait (worms, leeches, or good minnows) or artificial bait (like any of the "gulp" products) usually produces a few fish.

Pike: Spinner baits, bucktail spinners, ratlin' rap type lures, Floating Rapala originals, len thompson spoons.

Walleye. Bottom bouncers and spinners. Deep diving cranks, Storm and Cordelle make lots of good ones, rapalla shad raps and husky jerks if you wanna be a high roller. Selection of pink or orange 1/8 to 1/2oz jigheads with 3" yellow, black, and white twister tails. Weight forward spinners have been working realy well for me this year.

Could probably fish my whole life with a selection of these lures and never be missing anything.

For Pike - In my humble opinion, Best "new lure" has to be the Rapala Shad with the feather thing on the tail (i think it's called a tail dancer?). Buy the biggest one you can find (which is only 4.5" or so I think). Both the perch and firetiger pattern is awesome. These lures run 8'-15' when trolled (or retrieved) at 2.5 to 3 mph or so. Perfect for big pigs, snot monsters and some hammer handles to keep you busy.

Walleye - For Walter, get a wire weight thingly (I am awesome at remembering the real names of things), and run a spin n' glow onto a double worm harness - troll slow with your favorite bait or rubber (if bait isnt allowed).

You can also get an assortment of lindy rigs - they are good to and come made up for you if you are unsure how to tie up your own. They work pretty good.

I prefer the spin n glow as it creates a bit of "noise" in murky water and distributes a better scent trail from your bait. Run 18"-24" of mono after attaching it to the wire thingy with your spin n glow.

If you are allowed to use real minnows - hook them through the shoulders so they get a slow spin or wobble. Triggers more strikes.

You can also use a bead in front or behind the spin n glow to get the wobble a little more (or less) eratic. the further up the mono you stop (with a bead) your spin n glow, the bigger a wobble you get. Some days require a move of a few inches in either direction to see what wally wants to eat on those finicky days. Experimenting is the fun part.

You can never go wrong with some nice spinnerbaits for pike!

Get one of every size of LT 5o'd, red and yellow. You can have great luck with damn near any species on a 5 of diamonds.

you mean X-Rap?

The X-raps and the plastic shad raps both have them sometimes, I couldnt tell you for sure but I think that a couple other models have them as well.

Not realy a fan thou, plenty of lure companys making plastic cranks that work just as well for half the price. For me to pay Rapala $11 bucks for a crank bait it needs to be somthing I cant get the equivilant of for $6 from another maker, IE balsa wood.

5 of diamonds canoe, large single barbless hook, $7. Change the hook occasianally for a sharp point, and the leader if it looks anything but secure. I do carry a few floating polar jigs (gulp leach) for that midday snooze, but otherwise I'm flogging the water with my spoon.

I'm with the previous post. I went from hauling my hardware to the basics. I always carry a spare rod and reel however.

I agree, I have caught thousands of walleye's and 99% have been on a jig and a minnow. 5 of diamonds, red & white and a silver weedless spoons work awesome for the gators.
