Headed out to Ontario, Kenora to Lake of the Woods. Left work at 1pm on thursday afternoon and drove straight to winnipeg to pick up good friend Aaron Weibe from Uncut Angling. From there we drove to kenora at about 6am friday morning. Heading straight out for a 16hr day, we managed a couple pike, one smallmouth and one 40inch musky, which we landed on the figure 8 right by the boat. Feeling like Zombies and trying not to fall asleap on the boat ride back that night, being up for 44hrs straight, was one of our toughest days on the water being so sleep deprived. Got out the 2nd day at 7am and grinded threw the day we got into a couple more pike one smallmouth and at 7pm i hooked into a monster way out on my cast. she bulldogged her way to the boat and sat under the boat for a couple minutes, praying that the hook wouldn't pop out the whole fight, we landed her and measured it out at just under 49inch. We ended the trip sunday afternoon for a couple hours fishing sunday morning, As we were about to take off we came upon the biggest musky of the whole trip. Probably would of dwarfed the 49inch, just couldn't get here to bite. All in all a great trip and had a blast. Here are some pics of the trip Hope you enjoy.

Might be a fish of a lifetime for people from alberta. But your right just a typical day fishing down east.

The Ontario record Muskie weighed 65 pounds and measured 58 inches in length with 30.5 inches in girth.

haha wow, thanks for the insightful post! I think you might just be a bit tainted from all those monster firsh you caught back east as I wouldn't call that a "typical day back east"...lets see what was it...17 pound walleye, 30 plus pound pike and muskie, 13 pound bass...

Great fish Sean! Glad you guys could hook up with some great fish.

Here is a fish report from Canada day out of my fav marina down there.

Love this videohttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qlou9Lx1WKs
A 10ft rod with 8 lb line is reasonable. It's all about how you want to fish, if you want to get a sure hookset and rope fish in all day, go with some heavy tackle (baitcast, stiff rod w/ lots of guides) and you'll probably land more. I use a spinning reel, 7 foot rod w/ 12 lb line, just not a fan of baitcasts. With my buddy one day when he caught two 30" plus tiger muskie on an ultralight spinning set up w/ 6 lb line. I once caught a 13 1/2 lb chinook salmon on 6 lb line with a 6 foot rod.

Congrats on the fish, I'm from that area originally, never used to fish muskies but used to fish tournaments on Lake of the Woods for bass. We once pulled into a spot during pre-fishing and looked down from the back of the boat and thought we had missed a big log... until the log started to move. My best guess was that it was seeing the glint off the stainless steel prop and was following it.... I dont know how big it was, but it looked massive.

Very nice fish guys. Excellent trip, I can't wait to get back to Ontario and try for Muskie myself.

BTW> That is only an everyday catch for someone who can catch 13lb bass, 5 lb. perch, 18 lb. Walleye, 30lb. pike and basically every record in Ontario. (BTW, I think somebody must have ate everything they caught too! HAHA LOL!!!)

Somebody should dig up that old thread so we know what real trophy fishing is all about. Who was it who caught all those trophy fish again...........?

Thanks everyone. I gotta admit, those musky are a different bried of fish. I thought it be like pike fishing, well was I wrong. I don't think we seen many small musky follow, maybe iy was the size of bait we were using. And one of the toughest fish we have ever targeted. I think what kept us going that first day with no sleep was all the monsters that would follow use in on our casts. And those bass were just toooooo easy to catch. Lol. No wonder people fish for them all the time.:fighting0030:
