Thanks for the report. We pulled in brielfly around 3-4 on Saturday after fishing the Cardinal; blue truck with a white camper. My dad commented "It might be that Speckle guy from the forum out on the lake, he's always there."

hi Steven .. how you guys do in the Cardinal?

Put about an hour and a half in near the headwaters. Water was perfectly clear, but very high, and there were suggestions (stuff hanging in branches) that it had been much higher. Not a sign of anything in that time; no hits, no followers, no flashes or spooked fish wading. It was a shame, the Cardinal is pleasant up there. We'll have to come back.

There are Cutties and Bulls in the Cardinal. Over the years though there is has been alot of poaching so numbers of fish are low.

Beauty cutt!

Yes its a purple micro leach.. and a Phil Rowleys indicator.. it has released in pic i had it 4 to 8 ft up the line and was in 12 fow and casted into 8 fow to 18fow.. i released that fish as its to small has to be 40cm to keep and only one maybe kept..

The chironamids were hatching all around but leach pattern was what i tryed and stayed with this trip..

there was guys/gals using bait,, fishing(found Minnows in tub on shore) from shore and in boat and taking to small of fish its a bit sad but the lake is so remote there is no patrol and no cell coverage its one of those Quality Lakes as they also only put in 2500 Cutts every two years..

a guy was there for 4 days him and wife just as i got there they got one small brookie and had 2 kept cutts one 20 inches and one just barely legal he said and also got lots of 8 to 10 inchers and 13 to 15 inchers..

the osprey got afew right in front of me but no pic,s and the loon got some 1 lb or so fish too

The Bio out of Edson is George Sterling and his Gov number is 780-723-8247 if you have any questions about the area.. if long distance use 310-0000 then when prompted use that number

Yes at a distance but he said 21 inches using his hand as a measurement i caught a 3#8 in Feb/2012 so he is right.. as i said he had a smile on his face and those brookies are Awesome fighters i watched his fight .. he was in 6 to 9 fow trolling a minnow pattern streamer .. almost a Mickey Finn pattern but more oranges.. yes that 3n may help with the poaching of Cutts.. man the minnows are unreal in that lake.. most of the Cutts over 18 inches that i killed over the years had minnows in stomach..

Food for Thought

nice report speckle. great shot of that wolf. looks like a very healthy coat for this time of year.
serious question......do you have a problem with "no see'ums"? Only asking as a buddy was fishing rock lake last week and didn't realise the danger. Does the same reppelent for mosquitoes work on no see"ums? thanks

Hi McLeod:

While we have your attention, how is the Cardinal area these days?

So you also know Chief Smallboy is a "Luga Le Lu". (Ghost Wolf):)

Take Care.

Great story. I'm desperate for a Cutt - I have plans on the Aug 1st weekend to try some rivers/tribs, but if they don't pan out looks like Muskiki is the place for me! Thanks Speck!

I don't know how I missed this post in 2012, but what a great report. Muskiki Lake is a beautiful spot with some nice fish. To see the wolf must have been a great experience. I envy you having this all so close to home. Keep up the great reports as always. I feel that they are the type of thing this forum is all about. Here's a couple from 2013. GN
