I was camping last week at cold lake and even though we only managed two days on the water due to weather we cleaned up slaying the walleye and locking into the lakers, we kept 3 for the smoker with this being the biggest (KEPT) had a tank more then twice as big break me off while my daughter tried to net it.....she was crying lol it would have gone back anyways. I was extreamly concentrated on finding the walleye so i started scanning the bottom at 14'-18' looking for grouped fish and it may have took me 1.5 to 2hrs i found what i was looking for and as soon as I lowered my bait... fish on and on and on lots of double headers it was a blast with over 60 fish caught between us, nothing huge but lots of keepers. mmmmmmmm freash walleye deep fried wow nothing beats it

Ya we did good, it was nice to load up the freezer with walleye, there's lots in there so I didnt feel bad about our combined 12 fish keep limit lol the kids love it battered up as much as we do and we only get up there once a year.

Nice job. Good looking fish! And if I may say looks like you have some serious skills with the fillet knife!

I have my whole family out here this weekend. We've found some nice pike and and a couple Lakers, but the wallys are proving tough to find. Are you willing to share the spot? I'd appreciate the help.

It really wasn't to tough finding them its all about using your sounder/fishfinder and scanning for groups of fish near the bottom at around 15.5' deep and bango!!! also structure wasn't important the bottom was flat with nothing around when we started tying into them. I don't think I could explain clear enough where the spot is so u could find it, without my waypoint locked in my gps Id never be back lol

Spent the first part of the day trolling looking for schools but had no luck finding them. Did find a spot for some really nice pike and had a fish Fry. Taking to the road to try Marie today. See how that is.

My family and I are camping out at Moose Lake with our kids. But unfortunately we have blue green algae here and cannot keep any fish that we might catch. We went out to Cold Lake yesterday to see if we could fish there and found the boat launch at the South West end of the lake called Cold Lake Provincial Park.

The bad news is that when we went back there today, we spent 5 hours on the lake but only caught 2 small jacks.

Can anyone help us find a good spot to catch some Walleyes in Cold Lake and where our 15 foot Legend boat can go safely?

We are hoping to stay in the south end of the lake if they are there....

Thank you for any help with this....

I see one adult and three children in your photos. Are you telling your fellow AO sportsmen that three children legally caught, played, and landed three walleye over 50 cm to "fill your freezer", or did you bring the kids along so that you could harvest by proxy? This is the type of "sportsmanship" that leads to C&R or tag regulations.

LOL,here we go !!! IBTL. Nice fish flux.....

I'm getting desperate on trying to find the area where the walleye and trout are hiding. Today my kids and I spent 6 hours fishing from Cold Lake Provincial Park all the way over to the French Bay Provincial Park and only caught 5 pike.

Where will we find any Walleye or Trout or even Burbot? We only have a 15 foot boot so we're not able to venture too far with fear of possible big waves.

What are people using to catch as well? We used jigs with leeches or minnows on them. We were at about 12 feet for the jigging.

Then we trolled at about 17-20 feet of water with fish showing all over the fish finder but nothing would bite.

I don't know what we are doing wrong....

Was an extremely long time out on the water with the boys when we only caught 5 pike in 6 hours..... Brutal....

Help.....

I never had luck until I put in a real expensive fishfinder and a down rigger.
You need to get the hook down to where the fish are.

Lake trout may be in 110'-175' of water right now.

True the Lake Trout may be found over depths of 110'-175' Feet of Water (FOW) but you only need to go down 35' - 45' feet to catch them.

Hence a "Pink Lady", "Deeper Diver", "Jet Diver" etc or 3 way swivel rig and lead weights will get you to the fish. Of course Downriggers are even nicer but they do add an additional cost.

Good Luck to you.

I honestly can't think of a better feeling than when your kids and grandkids catch their own fish. As a father and grandfather it is the most fulfilling feeling you can have. The excitement and energy just rubs off on you and gives you that all day glow. Way to get your kids into a great sport fluxcore.:sHa_shakeshout: Those little grins mean everything!

Going there next week with my son's FIL to their cabin on the east side. The anticipation is overwhelming!!! The son & grandson are both coming along. The son's FIL knows the lake like the back of his hand, so catching both lakers & walleye should not be a problem. Fish fry & a few wobblies at the cabin will be in order.

The best part of the hole trip was seeing my daughter struggle with a fish for a good 15 min and getting a standing ovation from the boat next to us When we got it in lolol it was great. I'm looking forward to doing it again in a years time :oregonian_winesmile
We made some increadible memories. My daughters and I have our last years routine back, every night before bed it's smoked trout and milk, awsome stuff.
