hey everyone,

Just wondering if anyone has advice for fishing the athabasca, (gear fishing) I fly fish but the girlfriend gear fishes (FOR NOW). what are some good lures to use there. and if you want throw in some good fly patterns lol

You can get a spoon that is gold back plated and looks like a rainbow, the big bulls love it and as flies use small black stones and big black stones, hares ears,prince nymph the minnow patterns sometimes as i have no luck with them were i fish it but others do,buggers......expierment your patterns might work great

Where abouts are you fishing it!
I fish at the mouth of the berland river,where it T into the Athabaica.
In the early morning in September the whitefish and Grayling bite well .
Great shore camping along the rivier also.
Because of the fast moving water ,we use spin casting set ups with a wieght on the end of the line .Heavey nails or coat hanger wirer works the best .
Anything else gets hooked in the rooks.
Then about 12inch up the line, you tie a sneiled fly (black nat)tipped with a maggot
Best is to wade out in the river or you can fish from shore.

Here is some pictures of where im fishing, just caught a couple small bulls, dont know much about this river. Im used to b.c. lol. and I normally flyfish only but have all the gear in the world lol. the place in the pictures is by brule lake (not sure if your familiar) found this spot while at work.

The next day I meet you at the berland bridge.We were camped at the beginning of the makeshift campground beside the bridge
Did you get an elk
Our area got logged out !

I know of Brule lake,what part of the river are you on seems very narrowwhere you are on !
Great place for biking.

thought so...it is a small world...came close but never did tag out...got some great grayling action though!!
