Wish I'd had time to join y'all...:(
I had to settle for a couple hours of catching "girly fish" on big foam dry flies.
I got 3 rainbows from 17-20", hooked & lost a good brown; home by 9am.

I also hooked & lost a fish that I'm 90% sure was a shortnose redhorse suckafish. I saw it in tight to the grass in fairly clear water; the red tail really stood out. He took a nymph, I set the hook, got him to the top of the water & he came off; sure looked like a redhorse. Any of y'all ever caught 'em right up in Calgary?

We caught a couple below bearspaw dam, and 2 in Cochrane that were completely orange, I assumed they were redhorse.

Beadhead and a maggot.

Awesome pics Wayne! Summer foggy fishing mornings are always memorable.

Great summary Steve, cool to hear you hooked into a sucker on the fly!

Is the sturgeon fishing better in the spring. I have noticed over the last few weeks the sturgeon catches have dropped off. Do the bite pick up in the fall like the white sturgeon of the Fraser and Columbia ?

It is good during high water because the are moving around lots. When the water drops after the run off the sturgeon head back to the deeper holes. Some smaller ones stay in the Oldman & the Bow,but most of the big ones head to the deep holes in the South Sask. River. Most of them spend the rest of the year in those holes. There the same as most fish and feed lots in the fall. Its a good time to catch ones that are fattened up for the winter.
