Nice monster whites! Must have put up a great battle.

Open Talbot Lake up for ice fishing and it would be completely fished out in a matter of a few seasons. Having to use electric power, the normally windy conditions, less than stellar access, needing a parks license, closed for half the year, etc. keep the lake somewhat protected.

Wow .. do you know the history of Talbot Lake because its been fished for 70 years before shutting down to ice fishing and there has never been any issues at all but a couple of years ago we had a August die off and 200 big Whites like in pictures died .. the lake is in no way in any danger of have a problem in fact you could put ten net permits on lake for winter netting and you would still not effect the potential of the lake(imo) .. just Google the lake and look at a picture of lake and you will see why its a very very productive lake and you can see why it produces such fish as in pictures.. there are senior's in Hinton and Jasper and elsewhere are going:confused0024: whats the problem and why was its shutdown.. we had fish the lake for 40 years and no problems .. who did this shutdown and why.. so i asked on their behalf and got no reason from bio JNP.. i am to wondering why as i fished it for 20 years myself .. and was taught ice fishing by the Late Art Dunn(Alberta Record holder) and his buddys in the 70,s

Ice Fishing is a Canadian Winter Sport and the National Parks are a great winter hoilday area and lots of National Parks and Provincal parks in Alberta have ice fishing to offer Canadians and vistors.. its a shame that a lake gets closed to ice fishing for no reason .. as he did not have a reason in his own words.. here is a pic from 1984 ice fish 5#15ozer

i do know what i am talking about ,,i have most JNP parks fishing studies in my possesion.. all the way back to the early in the parks years,, and i am a Scienctific Angler and a Ice Fishing World Record Holder

also you and Bio have no idea how many Lake Whitefish are in the lake i saw hundreds in one small area and didn,t even fish where i normally fish and only stopped once and fish less than a 100 yards

thanks for your opinion though

David your thread here has done more for promoting fishing in the park then
what Parks Canada has done for fishing in the last 20 years !
Good on you !

Having fished the Parks for more than 30 years..not quite as long as Speckle.. I can tell you that the information David has released here to new anglers is Awesome... I hope some of you use it you to your advantage.
Talbot is a BIG lake and certainly could use more anglers !
