Personal Best Pike

Went out to Wab again and caught tons of fish all day with some friends. Also caught my new personal best pike! No measurements or weights since I have a habit of getting all excited, snapping a photo, cheering and hollering:sHa_shakeshout:, then putting the fish back in the water...aaaannndd..then I realize I shoulda weighed it!

Ah well, all said and done it was a nice thick fish and looked like a shark spiraling in the water as I brought it in. Definately my personal best to date.

next time I'll definately be getting something, I'm heading to Ontario on another fishing trip this Thursday and I wont be leaving without my scale and measuring tape.. just incase ;)

Ya I remember a few years ago in the pontoon I could see the fish dodging left and right as I scooted across the water. It was awesome!! and all of good size too. The plants closed now though and this spring I didnt have the same results as I did before :S bummerrrr

I agree that was unreal all them giants in the shallow water in march yet lol you could see them all over and we landed quite a few monsters some were even a little more than 20 pounds a guy saw a big fish casted a fly to it and it weighed 27 my best was 21 there

hey good to know! trout and salmon are easily distinguished between male and females but pike/walleye/perch/whites.. etc.. is there a way to tell??? hmm

We used to have to identify sex of pike at school in fish and wildlife tech.
The females have more of a bell shape and the males have a key shape hole at their anal area. Its not the hole itself but the area surrounding it. Take a look next time, I always remembers the females having the bell shape. Not sure about walleye.

funny i missed this thread for three days. great fish, lots of monsters being caught at wab. what brand of portable scale would members recommend using to get a fairly accurate weight. a lot of those hand held springy things just don't look reliable imo.
